Headed back to Jordan first thing this morning........along with everyone else it seemed. I was on the water by 7, fishing by 7:30 and on the way to the ramp at 9:30 with a limit of nice fish. The overall size was down just a little from yesterday but still managed one over 14". I was surprized how much the fish had moved overnight as far as the depth the bigger fish were holding at. Got the chance to meet Crappietuttle this morning and Slowtroll at the dock as I was leaving. I'm sure there were other CDC folks that I missed as well. I hadn't given much thought to a post Cheif had made a few days ago until I witnessed it this morning......Guys on one side of the pillings fishing across on the other side right on top of another boat and guys casting across only for their bait to fall back vertical directly beside their boat?? I guess to them it made sense???

What can all you guys be doing with limits of fish kept day after day after day. I like eating fish but dang. Didn't this lake have this same issue a few years ago where everybody kept keeping all the fish from this same area? I love reading about and catching fish. but all these post about all these fish being caught by all these boats don't seem right. Yes this site is about sharing information about catching fish but not about wiping them out. Seems more like fishing in a barrel, not my idea of fun. Just my 2 cents worth.

I don't think there has been any connection of the crappie decline to people over fishing. I have never met a fisherman who has said he would have more fun not catching anything.
    Just my 2 cents.

Roy, people down here in NC just so happen to like cleaning fish more than they do catching them. Eating lots of these Jordan crappie also leads to short term memory loss. But hey, there having fun NOW. That's all that matters!

What can I be doing with limits of fish day after day after day?? For starters, I've fished this lake about 8 times this year and only kept fish 3 times. My crappie fishing is also limitted to only a couple of months a year. Of the 40 fish I took home yesterday and today, they were divided up between my two grandmothers, my parents and myself. The fish I've caught also aren't coming from the "same" area, I fish many different areas and many different boddies of water.
Fishing in a barrel??...It's really not that "easy". Over half the boats in the area today weren't catching anything. So all these boats aren't taking home limits of fish..Very few of us are.
Hope I've cleared up some of your concerns here. I can't speak for everyone else but can and will speak for myself. And I'll ask that next time you have questions or concerns to create a new posting addressing those and not highjack my posting unless your concern is with me, then I welcome a PM.

Removing Crappie from the lake is healthy for the remaining fish. There is only so much food available to produce "slabs' that can lay as many as 6,000 eggs in the Spring. Take them out the remaining population is that much healthier!

There was a major crappie kill on the lake four years ago because of a major die-off of shad that resulted from extremely cold water that Winter. Many of the Crappie.com guys you read posting on here met with myself and the NC Wildllife biologist the past two years. Nature caused the shad to die and then many of the crappie starved to death the next Summer. The biologist stated they are not at all concerned about fishermen taking a limit--they are just worried about water temperatures. The biologist have already done their testing this year and the crappie population is still improving. They usually net around a thousand crappie, so they have a good sample population. Right now the biologist advice is to stay the course.

Sorry I ruffled your feathers. Just stating my opinion, that's what a forum is for. Just reading report after report of limit after limit caused my concern. Have seen too many good fishing lakes decline over the years. By the time the government or state guys react it's usually too late.
