    Default Lake Waccamaw 12/21

Tried something a little different yesterday. Went to Lake Waccamaw and instead of fishing Big Creek I drifted around in the lake for a little while. Not much doing. Caught three bass (one 3lb+), one yellow, and one white perch. That's it. It was real choppy so it didn't last long. I didn't know there were keeper size yellows in there. I've caught little itty bitty ones before, but in all my years fishing there never caught a keeper. The white I caught was a dandy, probably just under if not 2 lb. and gorged full of those endemic Waccamaw minnows, which makes me wonder why I didn't catch more. Whatever. People swear that there are crappie in the lake, but I've never caught one. I know I could've hit the creek and caught some, but I wanted to mix it up a little. Alright, back to work. Have a good week.

Oh yeah. I guess a fellow CDC member, vfarmit, saw me on the Black River Saturday. He was duck hunting, and I did hear him blasting away. I know you guys up on Jordan see each other all the time, but there's not a whole lot of us down here. So it's real cool when we see each other. If antone ever sees me on the Black or in Sutton I'm in an 18' Bass Tracker. My name's Brian.

Yes. There are crappie in Waccamaw. I have caught them fishing for perch but only small ones.

Lake Waccamaw has got some nice crappie in it. I know some really good ones were caught around the Dupree Landing area last fall/winter. The canal that's closed off now to the lake is where I had the best of my fishing days fishing LW. It's a shame the sand blew in and blocked it like it has.

I put in at that landing and started drifting from there on out. There was a lot of chop, kinda had to cut it short. Really had to resist the urge to go to Big Creek where I knew I could catch a few. Just had my mind set on fishing the main lake.

I fished Waccamaw a lot back in the early 90's. I always thought that I was on the threshold of figuring that lake out. Never did.

Yeah, that lake is a mystery wrapped in a riddle inside an enigma. The only real use I've ever had for it is the white perch. But even fishing for them, there's so many little ones that it gets aggravating.
