It seems to me that everyone is willing to buy their 65 and older elder a permit. So why can't we just pay more for ours and leave it free for the elders?I'm not understanding why we need to start charging them when they have been told for years it would be free at age 65.If'n that's ok,then everyone send me $5 a year and I will pay for all your boat gas when you retire. And when it's time for me to buy I'll simply say, well cost has went up sorry can't do that for ya now.The point I want to make if for the last 40+ years the retired folks have held up their end of the deal and payed what they were told.Including any cost increase or tax or what ever they had too to be able to fish that year.I think we should do the same.Yes I would buy a permit for my father if I had too,so why can't I just pay $40 for my own?
    Life is good today.

So, what are other states doing? This has to go across the board, I know some do/don't provide free fishing for seniors. Furthermore, if we do give exemptions what will we gain, seems most of the guys I seen out there are retired vets. Does this excise tax formulation require a minimum fee or is it $$'s based. And just raising license fees would have the State breaking it's pact with our neighbors, and after the "water wars" we surely don't want to do that. I still believe that running off the riff-raff is just as big of a problem. My example would be smoking in casino's and now bars that sell lottery tickets. You don't know what you got till it's gone.

Don't want to make anyone mad but how did you earn a free fishing license? I can work all my life at a job and I still have to pay taxes. Buy lots of gas for my car but I don't get free gas after 65... Been paying the destist every year for his work, should I demand free work at 65? He would laugh and hand me my bill.. I again think you should get a GOLDEN AGE discount but not for free. ( It's usually the ones that get things for free are the ones that complain the most. Not all of them but some ). If you volunteered and helped the KDWP with nets or cleaning up the lakes etc. all your life, maybe… But purching a license and saying I deserve it??? Really?? I really think it's great that there are people that have purchased a license every year like I have, but to invest such a small about of money to put more research and money back into the lakes your children and grandchildren will fish in the future. Priceless. If you want to complain about the money, that’s fine. The ones who really should complain are the Biologist that work in the fields to make are waters better. They must do it out of passion because their pay sucks for the amount of work they do....

Just curious(because I don't know), but do retired fisherman now have to go get(apply or sign up) their free license? or do they just go fish, and if they are checked show their drivers license to the LEO?

I believe you are right with the biologists, the ones I've had contact with all really care about the about our outdoors, and every single one I've talked to seem like great people.

No, they just go fishing and thats why KDWP can't get a true report of how many people are fishing. They are now off the radar...

So if you run yor household like the Government runs, you would be completely satisfied, and it would be okay to make promises to family, friends, children, and others then just change your mind with no facts to back it up? How could you expect anyone especially your kids to respect, look up to you, or think of you as responsible? It's not about entitlement, it is about a whole bunch of things like transparency, accountability, and INTEGRITY to name a few. I suspect that NONE of you really run your household this way so why would you defend someone else who does?

    Dan,

KDWPT gets all of the money from the sale of each fishing license minus the $2 vendor/convenience fee for the automated licensing system (the green, computer generated licenses/permits we all started getting a number of years ago).

Well there you have it. KDWP needs these retired folks to get a license(discounted or otherwise) because it will help them account for the numbers of people fishing and increase the Federal dollars the KDWP get form them at a 3-1 ratio as previously posted.
