The bottom line here is they are raising taxes on a group on individuals without their consent or input. Yes it is a tax, money collected by the government is a tax. Yes I know I can opt out by not buying a license. When are we as a nation going to stand up and say enough is enough we will pay no more.

Here is an excerpt from the release.

Currently federal excise taxes are charged at the sale of most hunting, shooting and fishing equipment. Those funds are distributed to states based on their number of hunting and fishing licenses.
The federal funds are often given on a matching basis of about 3 to 1. They currently pay for most of Kansas’ 1 million-plus acre Walk-In Hunting area program.
Tymeson had no figures about the number of hunters and anglers currently exempt from state licenses.
Mike Miller, Wildlife and Parks information chief, said the number is tough to track but added that since 2006 the number of Kansans 65 years old and older purchasing deer permits has increased 25 percent.

Okay here are some of my questions:

Tymeson admits he has no figures?
Mike Miller says it tough to track but he knows it has increased by 25 percent?
Most of the money pays for walk in hunting?

That is about as transparent of mud!! Smelling the Kool aid yet? The surface of this has barley been scratched but were ready to buy in to it?
With the technology today and for the past five or ten years we can't track the mear sales of any License in a defining way?
I am going to ask you for more money but I can't tell you how much I need and I can't tell you how much I get with any degree of certainty!!
    I don't have receipts?

How any of you can walk into a bank today and lay down the last two statements and walk out with a loan?

A lot of good posts so far. A very good topic with lots of opinions.

First and formost I think fiscal responsibility is point one. Over on one of the hunting websites the same things is being discussed only it's about Guides on Public land. I think we are all in the same boat.

Dog this is not the bottom line and it's far from it. It's called pay to play, you want to play you need to pay. If someone doesn't want to pay $10 to $20 for a whole year of entertainment then they can pound salt and go take up golf (oh wait that has taxes to). If your not military I think you should do/pay your fair share to enjoy the resources. If you want to call it a Tax the so be it, some taxes are good, this is a good tax. We have a lot bigger problems in this nation than an insane idea like someone chipping in a very small amount to use a limited resource.
It's not duck season so I have to do something... :D

SD, fiscal responsibility is what we want to see here but no one can say where the money or how much of the money was spent. I find that odd.

    Couple more uestions.

    Mr Tymeson and Mr. Miller,

Can you tell us if the federal matching funds are based on Actual Licenses sold for a particular year or do you send them ALL the licenses including "LIFETIME", short term licenses, free licenses, Out of State and others for that year?

Would it not be too far of a stretch to say that if these are not included yearly you have been fiscally irresponsible all along by selling "LIFETIME" permits and giving free Licenses and others all along knowing you wouldn't get federal funding except for the one time basis in whatever year these were given. Theoretticaly speaking, if everyone purchased a "LIFETIME" permit and they were not counted each year, your funding would have ended already. Some facts on this please.

    Lightbulb Okay SD

Lets us raise the under 65 to say maybe 50 would that be all right with you just a fee just a little bit more not much. Pay to play would that be okay. If that is okay why not raise to 100 that is not much more pay to play. Where does it stop if we allow these folks to raise rates on anyone without just cause then everyone is subject to a raise we have to take a stand somewhere and this is my stand. Sorry if you do not agree no bad feelings just MY OPINION.

I think by now everyone knows where I stand on this issue. It does cut deeper than just this one item. We have been subject to tax increases across the board for a number of years because the governing bodies say they need it to survive. We are given almost no information on how our money is spent but the demand is always more. Give me good sound reasons to up the cost and I will be willing to pay. I have already stated that to get all the Fed funding I would be willing to pay a 5 dollar senior fee if that is what it takes.

Is this how they do it?

Dear Federal Government, its that time of year where we need to come up with more funding for our sportsmen. Could you please send the same amount that you did in 2006 but add 25 percent to it because although I can't produce any evidence to the fact I know it's up at least 25 percent, let just call it a feeling cause as you know we have no proof to back it up. Also while we're at it toss in a million, oh what the heck a few million on top of all that cause I'm fixing to charge even more people who have been getting a free license and I KNOW thats whats causing this crisis. Again, I am sorry that I can't give you any real numbers but what the heck, I've sloshed enough kool-aid on the sportsman that the majority will buy into it anyway, I KNOW they will cause we been doing it to them a long time. Well get that check to me right away, I need it and we need to get to get back to the drawing board to see what else we can come up with to dupe em out of some more money. Is there anyway we can get some funding to erect a statue of our newly appointed KDWPT director, aw never mind we'll just make do with some other hyped up cause!!!

    Thank You, Yours truly
