Are you reading this correctly, those against are wanting accountability, it's not the $20 it's the principle. Those for think those against are leftist, free loading, entitlement bound pigs, but there are exceptions.

Craig, Scott, any other bios reading this, I know that your appreciated and now underpaid. However, your upper mgmt hasn't suffered like there subordinates. Upon asking for financial information that seems to be withheld presents itself "in a funny way".

Many of us today are living without cost of living or any pay raises, except for "upper mgmt". Nobody here "expects" a "free ride", although it has been granted in the past in this situation. I think its a safe bet to say we all feel like we've lost control of our government. They've passed laws to protect their ideals on how to rule us. All we really are asking for is accountability. Questioning your leadership is an informed citizens responsibility, this isn't the military, we support them too, remember

I took a large paycut 3yrs. ago and haven't had a raise since, like many others in this crappy economy, and I DO complain. But that isn't what this is really about.

I agree we need to account for all the retired fisherfolks out there, as there are an untold number of potential licenses that the KDWP could count towards getting more Fed. dolars. The most accurate way to obtain that info is to have all retiree's that fish obtain a license.

It is about transparancey and accountability and by the way it was us worker bees who pushed for the thingy in the paper. There were many many many ways to track this before, if it wasn't being done, why not? If it wasn't being done it is ineffiecency plain and simple doesn't matter how you slice it. So now you want to pay for ineffiency, and yes you do because if you didn't you would want an accounting of actual numbers before you jumped on the give em mo dough train.

It seems to me that this is really blown out of proportion. $18 a year for crying out loud! I don't think anyone has their hand in the till. Judging by the Maryville boat docks or the Melvern boat ramp they really do need the money. And it would be great if they could afford to put in some modern fish cleaning stations. If we want good biologists, decent ramps and docks they have to be paid for. I have enjoyed a free fishing for 7 years now. If it is time for me to help foot the bill I will be happy to do it!

AP just posted Gov. Brownback says no raises for state employees, however the will receive a longevity bonus of $50/10yrs of service up to $1250. Guess AP thinks you have to make it another 100yrs, surely it meant up to 13yrs@$50/yr. Tongue in cheek comments aside.

Howabout this for a solution since we all want somehow to get on the same page.

For the year 2013 ALL people who fish the State of Kansas will have to have a permit for that year only. The cost of the permit will be 2.50 cents for each person in ALL catagories of fishers. Kids, Disabled Vets, Over 65, and Native Americans. All other Licenses will rise by the same 2.50. Now after that year we have something to work off the past from. Lets see a breakdown of salaries in that year compared to the last year. Lets see how much was spent on improvements and the improvements broken down as to exactly what was improved. Then lets see a list of where the remaining dollars were spent and what for. Then we will have some hard transparent figures to adjust from on the future.

Raise your hand right now if you truly believe that by throwing money at this without facts that you will see vast, major or even minor improvements to the rundown ramps, new fish cleaning stations, more accsessible handicap docks or any other venture you want to throw in there.

Is there really no room for complete transparency and accountability instead of blindly accepting "we need money"?

None of this was addressed in any press release, all it basically said was we need more money so we have to charge this group of people. There was no real explanation of it was needed to maintain status quo or we need this to improve things for the sportsman, just plain old english we need your money. How many of us go buy something without researching cost, benefit, need or why? Personally I find it very insulting that the politicians think so little of our intelligence.

If they can raise the rates on the 65 plus this time without any blowback, then next year they will raise the rates again then again then again. It is not the money or what anyone can afford it is the fact that Jennison thinks he can do anything he wants and get away with it. They took away the senior discount for camping they eliminated the second vehicle discount, now they want to charge full price for over 65. Okay what next charge over 65 more because they can fish more. That seems to follow some of the logic posted here.

I tell you what I would be more than willing to buy a discounted senior licenses so they can count it toward federal funding, but I also think it would be fair if they raise the regular fee by the same amount as they charge for the senior fee. That way we can all being paying more and we can expect great facilities at all of our lakes.

I would hope they would give the enforcement officers and the Biologist a raise. With that increase in money.
