The brown wire inside the power drive with US2 does ground the case to the TM battery negative. There is a issue (with US2) tying the negatives of the TM and Start together according to a post from Catfan from Minn Kota. We flagged this move last week if I recall correctly.
However, these are the steps I always use troubleshooting noise. Glad you posted it Wilbur.
What was left out of the instructions was the ferrite choke. Last call.
