    Default Monticello is Heating Up!

went to lake Monticello today and came home with 19. The wind was horrible and it caused my battery to run out around 12:30 so i loaded up and came home. I was fishing mostly in water 45-60 foot deep a couple of cranks up from the bottom. All morning the small ones were biting(9-12 inches) and then all the sudden I felt a tug on my line and the fight was on. I thought i had hooked up with a decent largemouth but i got it to the surface and it was a 2 pound 9 ounce beautiful black nose crappie. It was my second biggest crappie i have ever caught. boy did that thing catch me off guard after catching those 10 inchers.

Way to go Rieve, I know the wind had to be tough on that lake today. Thanks for the report.

    A bad day of fishing
beats a good day at work.

That's big for a blacknose. They pull so good even a small one will make you think you have hooked a bass. If you were the person in the camo boat we saw turning into Hunger Run at around 6:20 this morning you gotta be tuff!! That fog, wind, and rain all combined would make for a bad day for most folks. Thanks for the info.....I plan on being on LM Sunday and I am hoping for calm. My boat does not like the wind at all.

Man that's a good report. Glad to see you haulin' some in.

Ouachita was dead today...except for the wind and the rain!

Did you first see them on the FF or just fish the edges and bends of the channels? What worked for you today?

At 47.8 degrees, maybe it's time for me to hit the deeper water.

Hey Arkie I was fishing mostly on the edge of the channel on the drop off. But with the wind it was extremely hard to stay on it.

    Default Lake Monticello report

Hey everybody. I'm a newbie to Crappie.com and I'm really excited to see all the reports and pictures posted. My husband and I camp at Cane Creek a good bit. We are headed there next Thursday and will be leaving Sunday. I guess we haven't really learned how to fish for crappie at Cane because we have never gotten into a good catch, but we surely don't mind giving it a try every chance we get. I caught one two years ago this past Thanksgiving that weighed 3 pounds and was 16 inches long. I'm sure most of you have topped that many times, but it was my first catch that big and it surely was exciting. We've fished at Monticello, too, and I'm sure we'll give it a try while we're camping at Cane. Really glad to hear the crappie fishing is starting to warm up.

Keep all the good posts and pictures coming and any "tips" ya'll would like to share with this Fishing Nunu for hauling in the big ones at Cane Creek would be greatly appreciated.

welcome to the site, I never have had much luck at Cane Creek either but i know there are some big uns in there. If you decide to go to monticello i am sure you can catch some fish just look for all the boats and start fishing in the channel. they will be stacked up in the middle. Good Luck!
