I am by no means an expert. But ill tell my 2 cents worth. To see the thermocline turn your senssurgery up . To late this year. Side imaging require a little imagination . I done think anyone knows for sure they are seeing crappie. If you are on structure that should hold crappie chances are some of what you see are. I learned to use mine by scanning things I knew were there and what they looked like. And compared it to what it looked like on the screen. Ive been lucky to fish with guys who know a lot more about it than I do who helped me learn to use mine. Ronny Capps says Play with it. Thats what all those buttons are for. Hope this helps.
