    Default Fish Finder?

I am looking into buying one for my flat bottom. I have a small 12ft Waco I fish out off. I want a good unit that I can locate fish and structure with. I broke down last year and started using a trolling motor so I could fish on days we had some wind. I have done some looking around and not had a lot of luck. I will need to be able to remove it as I tow it in the back of my truck. I tried one of those fissing buddy unit and was not happy with it. I could not figure out how to catch all the fish showing to be at 20 ft in 8 ft of water. I am willing to spend up to $ 300 or $400 if it is the right one. I would like one of those $5,000 units you can see your jig on, but that might be an over kill for the flat bottom.

i use hummingbirds they seem to be more user friendly ! get a color display by all means their is all the difference in the world in color . they cost a little more but i would try to get a ci hd combo, you will not regret it in the long run! that just my opinion !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It dont have to be an expensive DF to see the jig, Most Df will do that. Mine does and I paid $105 for it. Your jig will show up as a fine horizontal line across the screen. Not sure how your little boat will be setup but I recommend a HB since they come with a detachable head. I just like HBs but have a couple eagles.
    It ain't nuttin but luck.

Put your rod down in the water. If you don't hit bottom by about the fourth tip from the top, you're in too deep of water. If you hit rock, you're in the wrong part of the state. I'm a narrow minded dirt fisherman, however, so you probably wanna listen to these other guys - they know what they're talking bout.

I would buy the best Hummingbird unit you can that is within your price range. If you are willing to spend $400 or $500 then that is what I would do. You will not regret it when you see that image on the screen. As stated earlier the CI HD models are nice. I have a 700 series CI HD with down imaging and I find all kinds of structure and fish in the water, now I just need to figure how to make them bite, LOL.

I know of no good fish finder that can be removed unless you mount the transducer on your trolling motor, most transducers are mounted on the transom with screws. I will vote for Humminbird also and color is a must.

I have seen people in a jon boat that mount the tranducer on a rod attached to a C-Clamp; they gan drop it over the side of the boat anywhere. As for the fish finder a Humminbird 570 dual beam with down image is very good; about $500; with spilt screen you can see structure on one and fish on the other.

Thanks for the information Humminbird seems to be what I need to check into. I have had trouble locating fish in the deep clear water lakes.
