Put your rod down in the water. If you don't hit bottom by about the fourth tip from the top, you're in too deep of water. If you hit rock, you're in the wrong part of the state. I'm a narrow minded dirt fisherman, however, so you probably wanna listen to these other guys - they know what they're talking bout.
