    Default Where to begin?

Hey fellas. I recently moved from the Mountain Home area down to Brinkley, and I am looking for some good fishing ideas. Per Google, there's a ton of waterways around here, but I have a couple of issues I am concerned about.

First, I have no idea what is private and what is open to the public as I don't really know much about the waterways down in this area (and Google isn't much help with many of them). Second, I don't have a boat so I am stuck fishing from the bank...and from what I've gathered, without a 4-wheeler many of these waterways are inaccessible anyhow (or I'm just simply not seeing the access roads on Google Maps).

I've tried Lake Greenlee, Horseshoe (by Biscoe) and various spots in Dagmar, but the majority of what I am seeing in these spots tells me that without a boat I am up the proverbial creek (without the proverbial paddle).

Let me be clear, I am not asking anyone for any "honey holes" or anything of that nature. I don't wish to intrude on anyone's sanctuary in that way. What I am asking for is just maybe a nudge in the right direction on places I can check out or fish without trespassing and do reasonably well being stuck on the bank within a 30-45 minute driving radius. I may expand that eventually, but for now I'd like to stick to areas I know a bit.

Thanks so much, and if anyone ever needs any info on Lake Norfork, I'd be happy to help. Hope the fish are biting for ya.

Boats can be very inexpensive.... May not be big and pretty, but that sucker will get you on the water.
There is a few places around here you can catch them from the bank certain times of the year, but it would not suit me... I gots to be out there...

If I lived in Brinkley, I would study the cache river wildlife refuge in biscoe, there is excellent fishing there in what the locals call "chain lakes". It will be flooded right now and not accessible. Try straight lake and fish the right bank about 1/4 mile the way down. White/ chart. Under a slip blobber.

Kalki, I live in the lonoke area and have fished in your areas alot. I would try dagmar bayou in Dagmar WMA. There are tons of crappie in there and it is narrow enough to where you can fish from the bank and cast or do whatever you need to do to get to the fish. Find a tree that has fallen into the water and you will find crappie all up in that joker!!! Also i would do like Midsouth said and fish the chain lakes in Bisco. They produce a lot of crappie also. Hope this helps.

maybe someone here can point you in the direction of a small boat. if you have a pickup you can haul a small boat, battery and trolling motor or even one of the "plastic" boats. one of those would be perfect for smaller waters like you will have around there. i fished greenly long ago and that's all so i can't help with the where to fish but the first thing i'd do is try to find a small boat. i would not be wading around the banks there during warm weather because of cottonmouths. and they are there. if i did i'd have a pair of snake boots on.

If you decide to branch out a bit the bank fishing below the wilbur mills dam below gillette or tichnor has been great ver my lifetime.
Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.

Joe - I'm there with you...I prefer to be out in the water rather than trapped on the bank. I think it's easier to spook fish on the bank than it is on the water. And I'd rather be a little further from the snakes.

Midsouth - Thanks much for the heads up. I've been checking out those lakes quite a bit on Google, but have as yet to get out to any to scout/try them. Trying to locate access roads on Google maps on a dial up connection hasn't exactly been fun. Maybe I just need to go try and locate some county maps and just do it the old fashioned way.

Mooney - I've tried a number of spots in Dagmar, problem is every time I go there are dozens of people along the road side fishing everywhere there's a semi clear spot between the trees along the road. My concern there is overfishing and trying a spot someone's cleaned out the previous day. If I had a boat and could get on the opposite bank things might be different lol. I will keep trying new spots though.

Duckhunter - I've been contemplating a small boat. Unfortunately, most of the papers around here are once a week and beyond that I'm unsure where to look. Perhaps you are right and I should check on here. You're definitely right about the snakes. Haven't seen any cottonmouths yet, but I've had my fill of copperheads the last 2 weeks. Tons of em out, and I'd just as soon be in a boat than having them attacking my bobbers every time I throw a bait out lol. Ended up killing one the other day that caught itself a fish and got stuck on the fish's pectoral barbs and couldn't get free or spit the fish.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I appreciate it and if anyone has any other thoughts I'd be indebted.
