Seems to me that everything I have read about anything being done is that the DNR’s are all trying to first control the movement and spread of the Carp and they are all leaning towards the installation of bubble barriers with or without a sound barrier along side the bubble barrier. Couple of states are working on re introduction of alligator gar and all gar species as they eat the young carp but cannot help with reduction after Carp reach a large size. Gar takes 4-5 yrs before they even reproduce and only every couple of years and are expensive to raise. Most all DNRs don’t have the funds to back nor is most states totally backing the netting of Carp as no true way to get rid of them without incurring and additional expense even if the land fills are the option to get rid of them after netting. I also find all science study’s so far are still at a dead end with no logical answer to eradicate or control them. Also, any studies that are being conducted, eats up and takes a lot of time as well as money a lot of DNRs also don’t have. So, it’s a heck of a slow process to get anything done or even accomplished as well as all DNRs if they are going to do anything, needs more money. But time is really the downside of all action. Here in Indiana, I feel like our DNR is only concentrating on the Great Lakes issue and have thrown up their hands and give up on our rivers and the only thing I read about them being concerned with is the Great Lakes.

I personally feel like the answer will have to come from a corporation or business that can profit from either the utilization or the eradication of the AC. Money talks, and the DNR's don't have that kind of money.
Or it's going to take the masses, all of us working together in some form or fashion.

Northforke, Man, if you were pulling cranks with the trolling motor and had all of these carp, then this will pretty much end the 'Cranking for Crappies' pattern if the carp are this thick. Sad. So let us know if you were using your OB(which may have caused them to jump) or using your trolling motor when you were pulling the cranks when the carp were going crazy. Not good if all you can do now is watch carp jumping out of the water whether you are fishing or have hired a guide trying to catch Crappie when running Crank Baits. Doesn't sound good for the Guides.

    Perch,
The silvers have been jumping behind the cranks for a few summers now. This year thus far, regardless of bay, I average at least 3 seperate incidents to have a single or multiple silvers jump behind the cranks on every trip.
I am assuming they are jumping due to the vibrations of the cranks, or the lines spooking them. I am not sure which but it is happening, and happening with more frequency.
And the size will vary, but have seen some that could top out around 60lbs jumping back there.

That's discouraging. I haven't been down in about 3 years to Ky Lake. I would like to try the AC on the dinner table though. May have to make it down soon to experience it first hand and possibly harvest a few

Sorry,Typing on the phone on an airplane, poor spelling and truncated thoughts.

I wonder if it is legal to shoot these things with a shotgun when they jump? I know I wouldn't do it if there was anyone nearby, or on a weekend, but during the week sometimes, I've got some bays all to myself. If I drag 4 great big muskie plugs behind the boat, these things should be poppin' like popcorn.

#7-1/2 shot should put em down inside 20 yards?

If I'm nuts, drag me back from the edge of the cliff, otherwise, I may lock and load!
