Seems to me that everything I have read about anything being done is that the DNR’s are all trying to first control the movement and spread of the Carp and they are all leaning towards the installation of bubble barriers with or without a sound barrier along side the bubble barrier. Couple of states are working on re introduction of alligator gar and all gar species as they eat the young carp but cannot help with reduction after Carp reach a large size. Gar takes 4-5 yrs before they even reproduce and only every couple of years and are expensive to raise. Most all DNRs don’t have the funds to back nor is most states totally backing the netting of Carp as no true way to get rid of them without incurring and additional expense even if the land fills are the option to get rid of them after netting. I also find all science study’s so far are still at a dead end with no logical answer to eradicate or control them. Also, any studies that are being conducted, eats up and takes a lot of time as well as money a lot of DNRs also don’t have. So, it’s a heck of a slow process to get anything done or even accomplished as well as all DNRs if they are going to do anything, needs more money. But time is really the downside of all action. Here in Indiana, I feel like our DNR is only concentrating on the Great Lakes issue and have thrown up their hands and give up on our rivers and the only thing I read about them being concerned with is the Great Lakes.
