Fish finder transducer
So without spending out the but money at bass pro I got a helix 5 and installed the transducer but I can't get it to not "wash out" at speeds faster then 10mph or faster I have a tracker grizzly 1448 aluminum flat bottom boat...maybe it's the strakes on the bottom? I've moved it multiple times and can't get it fixed..I can post pictures later any help is extremely appreciated or if there's a better forum anybody suggests posting this in thanks good luck everybody catch a big one!!

Aluminum hulls with rivets are bad about causing bubbles and turbulence that washes out readings at higher speeds. Does your hull run level on plane? Can you move transducer lower into flow stream?

I read somewhere that you want it where it doesn't rooster tail, keeping that in mind if I move it any lower it will rooster tail...the boat not being flat on plane could be onto something though I'll have to focus on that's tomorrow and see if I can adjust the motor..thanks!

A little rooster tail is not a problem. My transducers throw them. You need bottom face of transducer down in "clean" flow of water. I used a yardstick and laid up against bottom of my hull to show me where I needed to extend transducer. I put middle of transducer just below bottom plane of hull. Mine tracks bottom at any speed, just not as clean an image when going faster.

I did that at first with the yard stick and had it at the half of the transducer where it was well under what but it still did the same thing...I would move it more left or right away from the strake on the bottom but I used a glue on piece($50) that's safe to screw into rather than the transom...sounds like I may have to get another one and try it though

When I had my Garman on my boat, I never could get it to work above about 10 MPH, when I put my Lowrance on, I didn't have any problem getting it adjusted to work up to about 36 MPH.

I had this problem with the rivets, had to lower it more than half of the transducer below the bottom of the boat and tilt it forward a little too. It's working fine now.Originally Posted by Fisholishous

By more than half do you mean a little of the top out of the water or the whole thing submerged? And when you say tilt it forwards you mean like the tip going down in the water further right?
