First of all, I'm glad you are ok! Any personal possessions can eventually be replaced. Injuries put a whole different perspective on things as that can effect your quality of life. Now for the truck question. I drive diesels for work strictly because of the heavy load capability and the longevity of the motors. Usually get 500K out of them. They are more expensive up front to purchase and to maintain. Anything in the $7500-10,000 range is gonna be older and could be plagued with issues 'cause people do a lot of dumb stuff with them. Computer chips to boost power especially can cause problems down the road, and your not gonna be able to take it to just any old mechanic to get fixed. Stick to a gas burner, you are gonna need to find somebody's grandpa's old truck.. Ford and Chevy's usually have a little more resale value than dodges for some reason. I think they ride a little better. Forget Craigslist, to many scam artists and thugs. Use your friends and family network and buy something from someone you can trust a little. I'm thinking an extended cab Ford, Chevy, or Dodge with a little age but not over 150k in mileage. I will keep my eyes and ears open for you.

Full sized Toyota's and Nissans are definitely gas hogs.

Id look at truck trader and your local dealer a few times a day. Fot 10k you can def. Find what you want. I'm a diesel fan they aren't for everyone and all are more maint and cost more to operate--stick with th a gasser ford, cheby, or gmc.

Okay, thanks guys. Gas it is. I love the idea of getting 500k out of a truck, but I don't need to haul anything. And it looks like I can count on someone crashing into me about every 100k miles, so no point investing in the distant future. Besides, I love my mechanic and wouldn't want to part company with him.

Good to know about Tundras and Nissans. What about the Tacoma? Is it any better? I thought my Ram was incredibly comfortable, another reason I don't want to go back to a small truck. If Chevys are more comfortable, bring it on. I drove an extended cab S10 for many years and had great luck with it, so it wouldn't take any convincing to go back to a Chevy.

Thanks, Feesh. I've also got a friend of canebreaker's in Water Valley on the lookout for me, as well as someone in Memphis. I was hoping I wouldn't have to buy off Craigs list, but it was the easiest place to start looking.

So now that the gas vs diesel question is settled, should I have similar concerns about 4WD?

Most modern 4WD's are pretty much maintenance free. Having 4WD affects the resale value as everyone seems to want it nowadays. If you are not actually needing it why pay for it? IMO spend the extra $ to get a little nicer, newer 2WD, possibly upgrade to a crew cab. If you do need it however, get it.

I'm glad to hear that. I've managed without it, but there are a handful of times that 4wd would have come in handy while working. More to the point, I really want it. There are too many fishing spots I can't get to without it. It wouldn't be a deal breaker, but I'm glad to know it's a good option if I find it.

    What does crew cab mean?
