    BoarBuster,

It's drained by the same creek and part of the same Whitesprings Dike dewatering area, but isn't accessible from that end. I drive past Arrowhead landing until the gravel road dead ends at a bar gate under I-65. I then walk my kayak down the road (approx. 1/2 mile) on a cart.

Yeah Ditch, I'm 43 and I'll go about 290 before breakfast. That's a lot on a 5'11" frame. My hat is off to you for having the energy to do what it takes to make it happen. I lost that drive some time ago.

True. I fish there out of a flatbottom with oars.

There's lots of Black Crappie in Blackwell swamp, I just haven't figured out how to fish for them. I tried late one winter tossing a jig and bobber and caught a few, also got a limit a few times in the creek to the south, but no consistent pattern that works. I've caught several nice bass by accident, that were fat and healthy looking so I know they're doing well.

    superfly,

I have one hobby, fishing. I don't split my time between fishing, hunting, softball, etc. I know it seems like I fish a lot, but I usually fish from daylight till around lunch. That's about the time my wife and daughter get moving and want dad to go to the mall shopping, LOL. I give up a little sleep for my time and they still get the family time they deserve.

I use to bass fish and found out if it holds 24 inches of water year round then there's a 5 pound bass in it. I picked up the "ditch basser" by catching 7 pound bass in drainage ditch on my lunch break from work back in Georgia. Since I start chasing Crappie full time, I've found out it's the same!

Again, some of these holes don't hold huge numbers. It's just I'm the only one fishing them. If you know of a slough or backwater that no one is fishing and it's hard to get too. Believe me, it's worth the effort. If you won't want to try, PM me the location and I'll go!

Hey ditch. Would u be up to taking two newbies with you? We are just some single casters. We are planning on going Saturday morning somewhere. We want to venture out to new creeks but kinda worried cause we don't know much area besides Flint river.

Changing the subject a little Ditch, have you ever seen the gator or one of the gators that live in Blackwell area? several years ago 2 guys I worked with would go there quite a bit year round and fish an area in Blackwell swamp that they said had 3 springs in it and kill the crappie and bass and they would take pictures and talk about the "big girl" gator they would often see sunning herself. They estimated her length based on their jon boat to be about nine and half to ten feet. This was long enough ago that I'm sure that one has long since died but just curious if you might have seen any there.

I've seen two gators in Blackwell, but that was two years ago. both were in the 8 to 8 1/2 foot range. I start fishing from a kayak in Georgia where I saw 30 or 40 a day so they don't worry me much. By the way, gators can live for 70 plus years.
