You guys keep cracking me up, LOL!!

My tactics and gear have evolved to take advantage of skinny water. Beyond that, I'm simple fishing for Crappie where no one else is. If I went to Guntersville, I'd be lucky to pick up half a limit plowing the same water as every other angler.

Friday morning I fished Bradford - One other angler, Z-man who came with me.

Saturday morning I fished behind Rockhouse - One other angler, Alexave who came with me.

Sunday morning I fished the I-65 slough - never saw another person.

Find a slough, gravel pit or pond that's inaccessible and I'll show you a bunch of dumb fish waiting to be caught. I've just adapted my gear and tactics to get to them.

I use to bass fish and found out if it holds 24 inches of water year round then there's a 5 pound bass in it. I picked up the "ditch basser" by catching 7 pound bass in drainage ditch on my lunch break from work back in Georgia. Since I start chasing Crappie full time, I've found out it's the same!

Again, some of these holes don't hold huge numbers. It's just I'm the only one fishing them. If you know of a slough or backwater that no one is fishing and it's hard to get too. Believe me, it's worth the effort. If you won't want to try, PM me the location and I'll go!

Hey ditch. Would u be up to taking two newbies with you? We are just some single casters. We are planning on going Saturday morning somewhere. We want to venture out to new creeks but kinda worried cause we don't know much area besides Flint river.

Hmmmm...now where have I seen that picture before...OH, wait, I TOOK it! I surely thank all the other posters who have figured out that Ditch can catch fish in a mud hole (hell, I keep looking for his kayak in some of the pot holes in my driveway!) It makes me feel SO much better knowing that he catches fish where others don't...especially when he out-fishes me 10 to 1! I remember once we went and I actually caught a fish before he did....after that, he SMOKED me! The man puts on a clinic!

    callshy,

I'll have to drag you away from deer hunting this fall and show you chasing Crappie shallow for a day. You can use my extra kayak and it will be single pole work in 18 to 24 inches of water on scattered brush. You'll love it!!

I am sure I would. I have caught my share of shallow water fish as that is all I grew up fishing. I still go back to it at times, but in a slightly larger boat.

I've decide to keep fishing skinny water, I'll leave the big water and the boats that run 70MPH to the rest of you!
