I'm almost exclusively a single pole fisherman. But don't have a thing against spider rigging or people who long line troll. Boils down to following the law. When you get your limit quit & come back the next day.

Why do we keep having this stupid argument? Legal is legal. Illegal is illegal. Griping about tactics is going to do nothing except divide us as sportsmen. What happens when some enviro-nazi group like PETA takes up this argument and start trying to get laws changed? Whose side will those who don't like multiple-pole fishing take since they are the ones who started the argument in the 1st place? Beating this dead horse is just dividing us when we should be standing together AGAINST those who would like to take away all our rights to fish, hunt , or enjoy the outdoors.

Limits are limits, legal is legal. Leave it alone!!!!!

I started out spider rigging solely and then started putting out beds. In the past 3 years I have ( along with 2 others have put out over 200 beds. I too love to feel the thump but I feel now that I can take advantage of both techniques to catch fish and enjoy the sport. I was fortunate enough this weekend to take out some friends and put two of them up front and spider rig and enjoy the day catching fish and fellowship. My only problem with any of this discussion is when someone riducules a technique that they have never tried or are willing to try.. And that's all I have to say about that.

Well today I took my father in law and we single poled minnows in 2 ft of water and caught 27. His first time or we would have been able to get a double limit. I don't know what that says about techniques but I will tell you this. I am from MO. I rent a camping spot for a few months a year, bought a new boat and rigged it for about every legal fishing method possible. I like to use one pole and slip cork minnows but I also like to catch fish. I obey the laws. Use what I Keep and release the rest. I trust the biologists to make the rules.
Also, to the guy comparing the Mississippi lakes. Do some research on growing seasons and fertility before calling them better lakes. I would agree the size of the fish are better on average there but I would challenge you on numbers of fish any day. I would also tell you size is related to the reasons above and not harvest. This is from a guy that spent Feb and March fishing tournaments in Mississippi and caught some huge crappie. I still like KY lake better. Hope to retire here some day. All of this on a thread I started just to say I can't find the big fish. Interesting.

Sorry hunters1 for your thread getting hijacked. Glad to hear you had a better day today. I left the boat in the garage and took my granddaughter to the local fins lake. I had a great day today too and never touched a pole other than bait and fish removal duties.

well i live in ohio so we don't really have to worry about the spider rigging with 16 poles hanging over the boat with our 2 pole limit, which i think sucks. A limit is a limit and I don't take over the limit. But i will tell you when i was at ky lake a couple weekends ago that the quality of your crappie are way better than in ohio. Weather didn't cooperate with the high winds every day i was there, the fish we caught on average size there were great size for ohio. so spider rigging must not be hurting it too bad down there. Really loved the lake though and would like to get down there again with some better weather! Doesnt matter how you catch em, just catch some slabs and be happy!

heck, as long as you abide by the limits who cares how ya get em, dynamite excluded. Spider rigging to me looks like an absolute nightmare waiting to happen at any moment but Ive never tried it. Sometimes for me I like the easiest simplest way to get to the fish, I dont get out much with work and kids so I like simple single pole jigs but the guys that spider rig obviously know what they are doing cause they are catchin em! I may try it if I though I could keep a line or 2 untangled! I think that everyone should enjoy their time on the water how they choose within the laws set forth.

Outlaw A-rigs, outlaw trotlines and limblines, outlaw jugging, outlaw treble hooks (who needs 6 to 9 hooks on one bait to catch a fish, anyway?), outlaw anything but a single shot for hunting, outlaw any vehicle with over 30 hp and 3 cylinders!
