Yeah. It is hard work. I am wore out every time I get a step done and I don't care what you do, the fiberglass is going to get all over you. I am having a blast doing this though. It is fun doing something new and My uncle is keeping me from making expensive mistakes and saving me a ton of time. Be glad when I can get it fishable so I can try it out. Will have more to do later on the top cap but its going to bring in some fish before it gets pretty.CF

Been getting some work done on the boat but with work it is sporadic and spread out but here is what we have done since the last pics were posted.

Transom was glassed in on the inside and it is solid as a rock.

The only pieces of original wood that is being reused is capping off the foam pockets on either side of the transom. They were cleaned up and turned out really well. I have also ground off the excess mat that is frayed all out the top. It is nice and clean now.

Over the past couple weeks been cutting out the floor pieces. First had to clean off glass trimmings where we had previously done the floor bottoms.

Then we cut to fit. I am no carpenter so this has taken a while to do but got the pieces to fit in nicely.

Then while I did not have much time, I polished off a little section of the top cap just to see what kind of work I am going to have to do to the gel coat.

I think it is going to come out nicely. Long ways away from that part. Just testing some stuff on the finish right now.CF

Ed, I don't know if you know it or not but when you get fiberglass all over you take a cold shower first to get that stuff off. A hot shower open pores on your skin and makes it harder to get the glass off. It does help a lot.

Thanks Bill. Yeah, that was one of the first thing my uncle told me to do when we got started. It helps ALOT. Grinding will get it all over you. I have had it stuck on me so many times this year that I have gotten used to it. That stuff is rough and it is amazing how it gets all over you so quick. It gets the underside of my arms the worst. I don't care what I put on over my arms, that crap gets on them every time.CF

Been getting some work done on My boat. Glad to get back to it. Floors finally mounted in.

run a bead of 5200 down the stringers and screwd wood down into the stringers with 2" stainless steel screws. You can also see where I mounted the through hull fittings and livewell pumps before I put the floor in.

Was pondering what to do about the seams around the floor as they would present an issue trying to lay the main sheets of glass. The cracks would cause air pockets and would be a potential delamination problem. So after discussing it with My Uncle and his Nephew (who is the owner of Layton Boatworks) I was advised to just use Bondo and fill the gaps . I could have used Resin peanut butter but it would have been more expensive with the use of resin. So I prepped the wood for Bondo to make sure all wood surfaces were sealed in resin first.

Then came the bondo. I used a gallon and a half to fill everything around the floor. This was around $30. You have to work fast with that crap. Only get 5 good minutes before it is unworkable. Spent all the next day grinding it down and then this past sunday was spent vacuuming out all the dust and giving the entire inside surface of floor and hull an acetone bath.

After getting all that yellow dust out of the boat, Yesterday i cut strips to go across the seams of the floor pieces, frayed all sides of the strips so no seams would show up in the main sheets to be layed next and have a nice level smooth floor. Then resined them in. This is just a little more reinforcement and will make the floor more solid.

As Soon as this sets up good, I'll be ready for the main glass work. The whole floor will be covered with two sheets of 1 1/2 oz. mat. with the two sheets of glass and 3 layers of resin, the floor will be around 3/16" to 1/4" thicker getting up close to 3/4" floor and with that much on top, the seams of the 1/2" wood will have no issues with flex. All seams were tied in to support beams that were made into the stringers except for one section. I had to make some scabs out of dry fir 2X4 and were screwed in under two pieces making them solid. Everything coated in resin.

After the next glass work is done on the floor, I will be ready to put the cap back on. I will be SOOOOO glad!CF
