great report nice chair
In my opinion the electric sonars do not hurt them ,nor a slow running TM ,it's the bump ,dropping things and so forth, if fish is 8 or more feet deep,I jig 1/2 of the time and caught plenty over top of them and never cut sonars off and may be 3 on at a time, I think he had it on slow and even though the motor inside it makes a noise ,it is not a sudden noise that would scare them, this is only my opinion and want be first ttime I was wrong ,just ask wife,LOL. Many disagree with me on this one through

Nice report Tap. I seen you fishing some brush we both know a little after 10:00AM. I then went to one of my favorite piles and could not get a bite. Figured you must have worked them over pretty good. Did not see you any more but your truck was still in the lot when I left. Nice looking fish, I think the one in the video would have weighted more.
My unit (Terrova) is a bit loud as it's 80lbs of thrust and it didn't help that my camera/phone was sitting right next to my trolling motor.
I can't quite figure out how it turns the shaft. In the parts drawing below you can see the small motor but the shaft is not connected to anything, it runs right through the center opening.
I guess somehow, some way, when you go to turn the shaft something compresses and grips the shaft allowing it to be turned?

Looks like part # 370 is the servo motor that turns a small gear that engages part 380 a bigger gear that engages 435 that is on the 445 which is the clutch that turns the shaft. I had one and when I pushed the button it would try to hold me in place, fighting the wind and current. But all I heard was that thing going ERR ERR err err back and forth. My 2 cent is that a 2-3 lb crappie is 10 years old and has seen a lot, thats why still alive. We need every advantage we can get, reducing noise is one thing I try to do this time of year, the rest of the year the odds are to far in the fishs favor.
Yea, 445 must somehow squeeze the shaft, I just don't know how it does it.
