Great string... I fished neighborhood ponds in the old sections of VA Beach, around Aragona, Bayside and Witchduck. Always caught a mixed bag including crappie, and we were just kids fishing with worms and frozen shrimp.

i plan on catch and release only in this pond... dont really trust eating the fish with all the lawn fertilizer and whatever else may be in that water? but i think it will be fun to test and try some new crappie fishing techniques that i havent done before (such as long lining) and try out new baits/lures and see how they work... if anything else it will be fun and a chance to become a better crappie fisherman! (hopefully!)

also came up with this today... i dont have a ton of crappie poles and i am a huge fan of cast/retrieve but i figured i could try spider rigging. i dont have alot of money to spend on a professionally made spider rig pole holder set-up... so i figured i could make something myself! like i said i dont have alot of poles so i made it to only hold two poles. but that is two more poles in the water than without this set-up!

and before you ask... yes it is sturdy! haha... its not as sturdy as metal but i pulled on the end of my line harder than any fish ever will and it held up just fine!

If you ever stop into the chesapeake bait shop and look at the pictures on the wall there are some HUGE SLABS, so I asked the guy when is that dude catching those fish. Cooper Ditch , I ask where is that and he says it runs across Chesapeake. The kayak site showed a guy with CITATION crappie he caught in Greeenbriar finger lakes/ditches. I am with ya on not eating them, all that water is runoff from yards. I did hear Geico lake in Va beach has big fish. Could be a blast catching them.

that t bar should be fine... i put mine to the opposite side of the boat as my trolling motor, for 1 to not get any fish snagged up on the TM and 2 to make it easier getting on and off the boat. Also you want that bar to be as close as possible without having to stretch... more stretching to reach.. more boat movement before you touch the rod.

Love them ponds! from @13-18 yrs old I slacked up a bit on fishing, (limited access to boats, chasing the girls, etc) but nieghborhood ponds got me back into fishing BIG time.. I loved dropping a canoe into them and trolling ( long lining?) while I paddled around. I found a few ponds that had some very nice crappie!

Nice fish pics! I wished I lived on one of those ponds. Everyone one I've driven by says they are to be used by the residence only. I don't have time to get a ticket!

va beach is full of small ponds! just gotta find one that has a place to put in a small jon boat or know someone that is willing to let you use their backyard to put in. i never would have even thought about fishing this pond if it wasnt for one of the neighborhood kids telling me there is big crappie in there...

If it is void of cover and shallow, long line troll or spider rig with 16 foot poles out the front to get them away from the boat. Long line 1/32 ounce jigs in shallow water. You can also just cast around with 1/32 jig and reel in slow.CF
