I had the day off so I decided to spend it at Buggs. I only netted 26 crappie but 6 of them were 1lb+ with the biggest three at 1lb 4oz, 1lb 5oz, and 1lb 9oz. (three others at 1lb even) The one that weighed 1lb 5oz was a 14.5" white crappie. Dang thing was long but skinny. All but two were caught 15' to 20' deep over structure either casting a Cajun Cricket or pearl white BGBS or vertical jigging with a wasshoppah tipped with a crappie nibble.
I started in Eastland, briefly stuck my head into Panhandle, then fished Butchers some. Water temp was 55 and when I was out in the main lake I rarely saw another boat. I never caught more than 6 in any one spot. I found some new brush piles in Butchers but they did not produce. Oh well, I love that reservoir and for Dec. 23rd the weather was just about perfect.

That green and white is pretty. Have you tried any of the "Glow" grubs? Seems that might be something when fishing deep like that. If its dark down there, seems it might attracted some attention. I have some of the BG glow models and they glow well in a dark room.
The wind must have been whipping when you left home. Did is settle down early Am?

I only fished the creeks.
It's actually chartreuse and pearl and I have not tried the glow grubs. And yes, the wind was rather brisk when I left home and blew 5-10 while I was out there. It was a bit annoying but manageable.Originally Posted by Ranger690
Yes, I put in at the end of Eastland Creek Road. It's 144 miles from my house and the closest ramp. However, I won't hesitate to make a run. Friday I ran 40 miles and have had days when I run 50-60 miles.Originally Posted by HeyCharlie
I like the chartreuse/pearl wasshoppah but I also dip the tail in chartreuse dye. (picked this up from fishdoc) I also do well with a solid chartreuse wasshoppah in deeper water or on cloudy days. In the summer blue/pearl does well when the water is clear. As to the brush, I guess it's your standard Buggs brush pile. I don't really know what it is.Originally Posted by Don G
