You've found a woman that will fish twice in a week?? And night-fish at that! You'd better get a ring on her finger!! I knew my wife was the onethe first time she volunteered to back my boat down a ramp.....and did it well!!

On a serious note......I'm planning to try night fishing for the first time this summer. How do you set up? Submerged light?

BigSandyRookie, below is an article on night fishing for crappie that has everything you need to know. It was written by Rango over on the South Carolina forum.

When I night fish, I prefer to use two white halogen lights. They are called Starfire II lights and they are made by Brinkmann. These are also mentioned in the article. They are getting hard to find so you may need to order them. Some guys like to set the lights way down deep in the water, but I have been most successful with setting the lights bewteen 2 and 3 feet deep.

As far as locations to set up, I like to set up in water from 20 - 45 feet of water. I have had good luck setting up around boat docks and marinas with a submerged brushpile close by. Bridge pilings are also a good choice. I prefer to rig my poles with two #2 TruTurn red hooks 18 - 22 inches apart weighted with one or two pea-size split shots, depending on the depth you're fishing, wind, and current. I fish them straight down without a bobber and just watch the line and rod tips. You may want to invest in some good rod holders because a decent size fish can pull a pole in the water in the blink of an eye.

When I start out the evening I set the first rod at about 6 feet down, next at 10 feet, next at about 15 feet, next rod I set way down at about 20-25 feet. When the bite starts up set all the other rods to the depth of the rod that gets the most hits. Sometimes it takes a little while for the bite to pick up. I've had to wait up to 2 hours for the first bite before, but patience ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS pays off with fishing.
