Default no luck at tellico, the last few trips.

hello, i'm new to this forum. my uncle and i fish out of razor's landing (its less then 5 miles from the house) and are not doing good. the last trip 1/8/13, we trolled for hrs, 1-1 1/2 mph, w/ 12 poles doubled 1/8 jigs, some had 1/16 & 1/8, different colored grubs, blu/ chart, red/chart, white, blk/chart, small spinners, green/chart, small plugs, even added 1/2oz to some, casted into brush piles and still no luck. seen fish in 20+ FOW on the edges of channel, dropped minnors to them, and they still won't hit. we got 10 total, and 2 keepers, all day. we use a HB798 si hd on the trolling motor, and a HB788 ci in the back. i know they are there, but can't get em in the boat. anybody else fish razor??????? i'm thinking about moving to another lake. maybe fort loudoun????????? any thoughts or suggestions???? thx, rick

You should try a trip to Douglas. They're biting pretty good right now.

    Welcome to Crappie.com
Most of the reports I have seen the fish have been shallow. Of course the reports have been from other lakes. I guess that would change with the weather but it might be something to try.

The fish that we caught at Razors Landing in the winter were always slow to bite. We would use 1/32 or 1/24 flies. I know some guys that fish the main out from the ramp but they tightline brush piles. If you're going to troll, you might go down the lake to Ball Play. I heard that they caught a few down there trolling.

Tellico has been slow/no bite for months now, (IMO) I haven't been since around Thanksgiving, constant weather fronts moving thru on a weekly basis, I just quit for the season. Was going to go this coming saturday but now calling for rain for the next 5 days, so pppfffttt. Will find something else to do probably.

    OP:
Were you spider rigging or trolling/longlining out the back? Speed might have been a bit fast, but you gotta vary the speed to find what they like.

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

I fish Tellico a TON (1.7 miles from a ramp helps) and it's been a weird year for me as well. When I troll I long line troll under a float and my TOP speed on the Terrova is 0.6 mph but, on a glass slick, calm day I'll slow it down to 0.4 and hardly move the floats. I am really just keeping the lines tight and hardly moving. I've caught a bunch of fish on Tellico this year but, the shorts to keepers ratio is reversed this year. Last year I would usually catch 5-6 keepers before I throw back but, now I'm catching 8-10 shorts to a keeper. However, the keepers that I've caught are HUGE thou. Try Ball Play and go under the bridge and start slow trolling like I stated above in about 10-12 ft of water and see if you can't knock off a few keepers. I like blue and red 1/16 flies tandom rigged the best up there.

I fish Raiser a lot and it has been hard this year. I have found that I have had to slow down to .7 or so in order to catch them. I was hitting them at 1-1/2 and having no luck. My keeper ratio has been running about 1-1. I fish out of an old white aluminum boat with a 20 hp Camo Johnson. I longline mostly running about 4 rods at a time. Holler at me if you see me. I have about 40 brushpiles marked and ain't afraid to show you everything I know.

maybe we need to make a "playdate" to do the meet and greet and fish. We can share what we know about the different areas we each fish. How bout guys ?
