I have caught many a beautiful fish in all my years of fishing, Fish from 2 to 2.6 are plentiful in my life time live well. A crappie surpassing the 3 pound mark is quite the accomplishment. I liken it to making a hole in one in golf. If you play often enough, sooner or later one of your shots is going to find the hole. I have only caught one crappie surpassing the 3 pound mark. On that day in early March, I was long lining a shallow flat. Tennessee Shad colored Kalins were the baits. I ran into the mother lode of big fish. The limit catch consisted of over 15 fish surpassing 2 pounds, anchored by the 3 pounder. The cooler shot was an awesome sight. Ever since that day, shallow, fast trolling remains one of my favorite ways to crappie fish. I have numerous fish that have come close to that magical mark, several fish from 2-12 all the way 2-15 but just not enough to get over the 3 pound hump! In case you were wondering, the answer is YES, I have been fortunate to have made a hole in one as well.

3 lb 10 oz fish of a lifetime last March 12th. Can't remember the length. Caught trolling a curly tail in Clarks Hill, also caught a 2 lb 3, 2 lb 5, and 2lb 9 on the same day. Kept all four in my 50 gallon shad tank, had em weighed on certified scales, and released em all the next day in Coldwater Creek on Russell! Oh, the memories!

Sounds like they were caught in every conceivable way. I guess the lesson is you just need to be on the water and fishing to give yourself a chance.
Caught my pb in hawe creek casting a junebug slider on 1/32 head with boat in 6 fow. 2lb. 10oz. Caught a 3lber in wells with the dip net one day, but she was already dead. She was floating in the grass and couldn't have been dead long. Did take her back to the campsite and have some fun with the wife.
Inkdabber, you are obviously spending too much time golfing and not enough time fishing otherwise you would have more 3 lb crappie to your credit.![]()
The bride has one that was 2.6 on my little Berkley scale. Wateree off our dock with minnow bout 2 ft under a cork over our brushpile.. She still reminds me of That Big One she caught.
Ive yet to break into the 2 lb fish.My pb is 1 lb 15 oz,,,three times.(begining to think thats all my scale would weigh)All longlining at cane creek park. One day I got the 1-15 and my friend fishing out the back landed a 2lb 4 oz,,it was caught off a lemon merange kalins,1/16 oz head.
HEY,,WATCH THAT YELLOW ROD
Mine came from Santee last March. I drove up to SC to see my family and fish the CrappieUSA tournament on Wateree. It was a great week. Came in 2nd in the tournament and caught my pb 2lb 10oz longlining in Potato Creek. I hadn't fished Santee in 5 years before then and never for crappie, always catfish. The fish were stacked up so good I had my limit in about 3 hours with no fish under 12". I wish I could have stayed and fished longer but had to get back to Florida for work............work really gets in the way of things sometimes!!!!
