You can run deep even with a 1/16 but I would pull a 3/32 or 1/8 oz jig. You could put out say 40' of line and with a 3/32 going at .08 you will have the jig around 8 to 10' deep, to get them deeper slow down. Throwing you jigs way out from the boat just helps to get the jigs away from the boat. Sometimes this helps on days with a slow bite and they jigs may run a little deeper. This is the reason you "HAVE" to spend time on the lake learning what you jigs are doing from your boat and setup. No two boats will be the same jig depth with the same combo used but you can take what we are telling you and have a great starting point.
1/4 oz jigs are going to run very deep and on turns you are going to hit the bottom without speeding up.
