interlink set up

First time posting here. I have 2 - 798's, one is a C and the other is a CI, and an interlink box with 1 ten foot cord to go from the box to the unit. Both units are installed. Best I can figure out so far is that I need another 10' cord to get these to "talk" to one another.
What I want to have is ; when I set a waypoint on one unit I want it to show on both. Am I right in understanding that I need only one of the antenna connected to the box?
Both units are installed Can someone tell me if I'm going the right direction?
Another question is do I have to have a mapcard in each unit or will the one without a card read from the other unit?

Yes you will need an AS Interlink cable for both units ...

Waypoints created on 1 unit are physically transferred into the Interlink and the other unit memory...

1 GPS module can be used for both units ... But more accurate waypoints would be obtained by having a separate GPS antenna as close to each xducer as possible ...

Map data cannot be shared by any core HB units ... You will need a card for each unit ...

Greg will correct me if I stated incorrectly ...(I'm not well versed in Interlink)...

skeetbum e-mailed me about some of this. He may have to contact the Humminbird Customer Service folks about the 10-foot cable. If all depends on if he only wants the 10-foot cable (also used as the AS-EC-10), the 20-foot cable or the shorter cables that have the trolling motor interference chokes built into them. If it’s just the 10-foot cable he can get that at any retailer that carries the AS-EC-10 [NOTE: this is a different cable than the closely named AS-EC-10E] but if he needs/wants the others he will have to deal with the Humminbird Customer Service folks directly.

For the GPS: Rickie is right in that one GPS Receiver (either the internal or external) can be used by both units but you will get more accurate waypoints if each uses its own GPS Receiver and preferably it is mounted directly over the transducer or as close as you can get to it. You can set the units up this way by selecting which GPS Receiver they use in the GPS Receiver Override menu.
If you only want to use one GPS Receiver you have two options here:
1. Use the internal GPS Receiver of your 798ci Si unit. No extra cables to connect and you will have the external GPS as a back-up or to sell.
2. Use the external GPS Receiver of the 798c Si unit and plug it into the GPS port of the InterLink. By default; both units will use this external GPS Receiver. As a backup you can select for both units to use the internal GPS Receiver of the 798ci Si unit but it does have to be on for the other unit to use it.

Thanks Greg and Rickie for the responses. I'm going to go with the regular cord first, hopefully getting a good price on a used one, until I see how thing do. If there's interference I'll just bite the bullet and call the customer service folks. Y'all wish me luck.

Bought the Hitek riser for the 798 2 days ago and the needed cable today, should be here by Monday or so. I'll be ready to take some updated pictures when I get it put together. Thanks for all the help everyone.

Would really like to see the Hitek riser pics. Have 799 up from on Ram Mount now, but would like to get unit a little higher. Curious about Hitek riser.

Hitekstuff.com Scott is a big presence here on CDC and he and his Dad make a good product and stand behind what they make. I have a bunch of his rod holders, they work great.

Well it's been a slow process, but the right speed for me. Learning new stuff takes me a while. Got the bow unit mounted on the Hi-Tek riser and let me say that it was money well spent. I can see the screen and reach it without bending over. Found another interlink with some help from Cray and got it mounted and wired, Humminbird has some great customer service folks on the phone. Couldn't have gotten through it without them and Greg. I've had it out a couple of times and I'm still stumbling around getting it set back up after going back to default settings needed to update the software. I like them more all the time, lots of "AHA" moments. I have to mount a choked power cord( got one ) for the front unit to see if it will eliminate the interference I'm getting from the TM. All in all it's going pretty good. Here's the requested pic of the bow showing the riser. I drilled and tapped the holes to clean up the mounting of the unit, 1/4" plate makes it easy. I also have some four pole holders to swap out with the two's when I want to spider rig with a few more poles. Stow and deploy is tight but not an issue if you pay attention to the angle of the left holder. Thanks for looking and for all the help and input everyone......Skeet.
