toofus explained this very well...

When the cursor is "activated", there are GPS coordinates assigned to that position of the "Active Cursor"....

Then, as the boat moves away from the location (lat, lon)...of the "Active Cursor" ...the GPS uses the current boat position (lat, lon)...to calculate the distance to the "Active Cursor"...and the degree (°) bearing to the "Active Cursor"....

Also (as toofus said)...as long as the "Active Cursor" is still "active"...the "distance to" and "bearing (°) to" will continue to cipher...
