What Shine Runner may not be understanding is that the 2D sonar chart is just that: a chart of the 2D sonar which includes what is presently under the transducer on the far right and older historical information as it moves to the left. It is not that the 2D sonar can read 102 feet behind the boat, it is that when the boat was 102 feet back at that location, it showed the that structure on the sonar.

As long as you are not driving around in circles the Bearing reading will always be behind the GPS as the structure (or fish) that is showing on the 2D sonar is behind you.

    Yes all brands,
For instance, Garmin 840 800x600 per square inch.
That's one criteria that's supposed to give it better resolution than say my 9 Touch.

Those numbers are pixle court for the entire screen. So for an HDS 8 the screen is 800 pixels tall and 600 wide.

Justin ...measure your screen and figure the square inches...(change the fractions to decimals and then Multiply height X width...)

    Then take the HDS 8 number of 800 x 600 = 480,000...(total pixels)...

Devide this 480,000 by the square inches of screen of the HDS 8 to get pixels/square inch...
    (I think that's right)...

I don't have an 8 anymore, but doing the math using the advertised 8.4" diagonal measurement (hypotenuse) I came up with 33.75 square inches. So using the 480,000 total pixels it works out to 14,222 pixels per square inch. The 12T came out to 15,445 per square inch, about 8% more than the HDS 8.

    Ok Brett...it's your turn...

Do the same math with your Touch 9...and tell us the pixels/square inch...
