crappieseeker, thats a very good question you have about the comparison on the quality of picture between the two. unfortunately its hard to get far comparison pictures.now im not sure if your wanting to compare all functions between the two or just the di.if only the di than i think the hds 8 should always when just because it has the dedicated down looking crystal while the 998 is getting the di from the combined two si crystals. justinp61, post really good pictures. the pictures that he posted in this thread , i believe are from kentucky lake. heres some pictures that i have from kentucky lake .there not the same structure but it will give you somewhat of an ideal the difference in picture quality.

I am redoing my boat and can't wait til I put the transducer on my trolling motor for my 998. Keep the Picts coming!

im glad that you asked about were my transducer was mounted.after i posted i saw were you were talking about trolling motor mount.no mine is transom mount,but i dont think that that really matters with the humminbird because of the scroll speed adjustment.i dont no about the lowrance but the 998 pritty easy to adapt to different speeds.one more thing that needs to be adressed is possible rf noise if your transducer is mounted to trolling motor.i no that i hear a lot post about humminbird and rf but not to lowrance but i see the rf in your pictures above every time your using the trolling motor and ive seen this from other lowrance users who post.im not tring to nock any brand or anybody just wanting to give a fair comparison of the to and to let people no that theres always a possiblity that they will have to deal with rf.

Kosmo you are correct about the rf interference, it can be seen in the 2d as well as the di. The 2d is using the us2 on the new Fortrex. The new tm is worse than the Maxxum I took of. I had a hb 747c that was unusable with the us2, with the skimmer it worked great. I agree both HB and Lowrance have some great products.

Haven't got out for a while because of work. Best I have from the TM. Glad you asked though. The Quality speaks for itself.
