i fish chinks pre spawn and post spawn deep,i use weighted flies .dragon nymphs , scuds(freshwater shrimp) and blood worms(midge fly larva).
chinks are bottom feeders and eat a variety of invertebrates, although i have caught them on topwater flies this does not happen often.
i find them deep on structure ,i thank they are feeding on snales that hold on limbs and logs, although i have and do catch them in button wood thickets in shallow water ,again i thank they are feeding on shrimp and snails that hold in these bushes .
my wife fishes with cold worms on the bottom tight line with a flyrod,no weight and no cork, and does quiet well.
grass hoppers are great live bait for chinks, they are much tuffer thean crickets, and will catch these fish when nothing ealse will.
