Slab backs,
When you are fishing in this type of situation, do you anchor or drift over the area? If you are anchored, how far do you position yourself away from where the fish are holding?

Rambler I anchor off just up wind of the spot wher the most fish are showing. I then let out line to put me over top of them. With the help of the wind you will drift from side to side to cover more of the area and the depth will not be a factor, at least it wasn't for us in spooking fish.
The anchor set a good 15 to 20 yards up wind from the fish. One day when the wind was giving us a hard time I slipped the back achor down behind them and walked us back up to center the fish. I use truck roters for anchors...they stay where you put them so no jumping around.
Slabbacks, I am sold on getting an SI capable sonar unit. If you had it to do over again, would you still buy the same model or would you have purchased a different one? I have been looking over the various options and for me it seems like screen size would be the only advantage to getting one of the pricier models. I use an ipad instead of a computer so a lot of the computer functions of the expensive models would be useless to me. I'm also not really concerned with the gps abilities. Since I fish the same bodies of water all the time, remembering locations where I marked beds or productive points/ledges would not be a problem. I want to get what would work best for me but I hate to pay extra for a lot of features I wouldn't be using.
Both Low and HB make units you speak of. I've seen real good stuff from both and not so good due to user experience and update issues. Screen size is a great help but with what both manufactures give not a necessity depending on the user.
I am pleased with the units I run and wish for a larger screen but these get the job done for what I need. Go to a location that has the models and put your hands on them. Try different ones. Remember that many have been playing with those units so ask the sales person to set them back to default....have seen great units jacked up due to folks just pushing buttons.
Find someone that has the unit you like and ask them to show you how they have it set up and see if it is what your after.
By the way, GPS / maps is great to have and with the prices where they are now should not be left out.
Ramber, like slabback said ,get gps also it will be useful, you will be finding new places you thought you knew well with si and then you will want to mark them to come right back over them the first time without going back and forth. By the way sb,when are you going to post some more pics here or main board,i like them.i have not been able to go for a while so like pics of 2d si and di,are you still on the gills or have they move?

I'm working on a deep water ledge post for the summer pattern and a deep water fall downs post. It will have some 2D in it too due to the way I fish in max mode over them. Was prefishing last week and had a tx this past Saturday so was preoccupied on it. The crank bite was on and that is what won it with all boats using that technique bringing in a limit. The heat has got up and these afternoon storms play havoc on fishing or doing the post so it's taking time in getting what is needed for a post with good shots and needed information.
New users should understand, as you and others know, that not every day out will give the shots you would like to post even if the info you are getting is what is needed to put you on fish that day. Hope to have one of them up soon.
Thanks
