Wademaster, I have just used the billy bluegill spider this past year, but the colors that I liked best were black or olive with black or white rubber legs. I also am making poppers this winter out of flip flops. I used a hot needle to thread a string then the rubber legs through them on some and some I just tied the rubber on the outside like you would a foam spider on others. The great thing about tying your own is that you can experiment without very much capital involved.

You "could" do either. But, if you want to use it on anything other than a flyrod ... leave the sinker on the line (for wet flies). Dry flies & poppers can be cast & fished using a float ... especially good are the "torpedo" style casting bubbles.Originally Posted by digihax

black gnats made by a co. called "4- rivers" out of greenwood/greenville ms . (can never remember whick ) . they are out of buissness now but it is just like betts except betts has a feather that does not sink as well . when i run out I will buy the betts and cut the feather off .
