My father and I were set up this way - me with 4lb gold Stren and him with 4lb clear. We usually caught about the same, but there was one afternoon when he was catching bream steadily while I was striking out. He gave me 4ft of his line and I made a leader and started catching fish. Never went back to gold after that.

I think it rarely matters, but does under certain circumstances.
