I am planing an exploritory trip tomorrow. It’s going to be a solo trip. My fishing buddies all have other things and cannot go. Assuming the the weather forecast is anywhere near correct. Admittedly I like a couple days of nice weather in a row before going this time of year. I guess I will be breaking my cold weather rules.
Glad to see your still putting it to them!

I generally don’t do well on Texoma in the winter and while I’m not catching a lot I am catching some.
Looks like dinner to me!
When I had a boat slip I caught fish all winter. Since giving up the slip I struggle finding them. I know they are supposed to be in large schools in winter but I’m blessed to get 25 in a hard days winter fishing.
It’s a good thing there’s no one to go with me because if there were I’d go fishing today. :)

I can’t get anyone to go with me in the winter so I have to go by myself again tomorrow
What Lonnie said.
It’s only a 2.5 hour drive big. :)
My last report for this year. I have not fished winters much for the last several years so while I say I typically don’t do well this time of year that is largely because I couldn’t fish because of back trouble. I am now 3 years from the back surgery and while there are days I’m not very mobile I have improved dramatically so this year I can try a little winter fishing.
Texoma has risen 3’ in the last few days which has dramatically altered the pattern I had been catching fish on. I looked about quite a bit before I found a working pattern but I did find a pattern. Here is what I cleaned today.

I'd ho with you crappie wrangler the colder it is the better the bite. Hope you catch a mess bud
Well it’s January 1, 2019 and it’s to cold and windy to go fishing. What is the intelligenct, dedicated crappie fisherman to do under such conditions? I don’t know what the intelligent crappie fisherman would do but I took my boat to the car wash and gave it a semi-professional cleaning.
There is is a definite remote chance the weather will allow me to fish Friday and I will be ready in a nice clean boat. I might even be able to give the false impression that I know what I’m doing. :).
Looking Good CW!
Bigsky will fill in the report later. I just posted the pic
Well, here's the report on my trip with wrangler. As a prequel, My ancient brain allowed me to lock my keys on my truck, right after arrival. No problem, I used Wrangler's hanger to salvage the keys.
First, about his "clean" boat that he just washed: I stepped in some mud just before getting into the boat, so we didn't get to fish in a clean boat. Second, we hit several brush piles before getting into the crappie. We caught quite a few, and also missed, lost, or broke off at least as many as we caught. Third, we (make that wrangler, with my geezer body giving moral support) located a nice cedar tree stump, hauled it out, and sank it in an appropriate spot. Fourth, moved about 5-6 miles, where a crappie shooter yielded two nice blacks. Fifth, cruised around after the wind shifted, but didn't find any more hungry fish. Sixth, returned to base, where wrangler showed his generosity by donating the fish we caught, some venison, and some wild pig to my cooler. Seventh, headed back home, thankful for a friend like wrangler, and looking forward to my next trip south. ps, I thought he did a great job as a guide, considering the very COLD front that came in yesterday.
Nice job, gentlemen!!

Big crappie.
I found most of the fish in my last 1.5 hours of fishing where I found a previously unknown to me drop off along a creek channel. The fish were traveling back and forth Along the drop with no other perceivable form of structure. I could see the school on my traditional sonar and just followed the school around.
What’s that ugly fish, Wrangler? LOL
That’s neat about the new place you found them.

Found the new spot and sank a brushpile also. My wife likes to eat those ugly fish. They are lots of fun on an ultralight.
I went whitecap fishing this afternoon. No pics but had 7 keepers out of 10 fish.
At least you got on the water.

Yes but it was much more like shooting white water rapids than fishing :). I will eventually get a pic of the "Magnificent 7" because I put them in a tank I keep here at the house for when I have a few and don't want to clean them right then. The tank is a 110 gallon horse tank made from recycled tires with a coy pump in it. works well for up to 10 crappie. The only reason I call them the "Magnificent 7" is because it's a wonder I caught anything at all.
Today is supposed to be much calmer and I am taking a guest not Bugsky so maybe he wont block my driveway and lock his keys in his truck :). I'm hoping we do better. Always like to do well when a guest is in the boat.
Sorry about the Bugsky, I was typing with to many thumbs :)
I took the unknown fisherman today. Not the Lone Stranger but another Unnamed fisherman. He is under protection in the witless protection agency so I can’t disclose his true identity. This is what we cleaned
Very nice!

We alsoset another brush pile
way to go!!
Thanks. Welcome back from password prison. :)
Raining and cold here today so no fishing for me. I spent the day cleaning reels and changing line. It’s looking like Monday will be my next opportunity.
Sounds like your still fishing to me, just doing the other part of it.
In fact you just inspired my Vicarious post on the main page.
I’ve been waiting my whole life to be an inspiration to someone. :)
