Braid and Broken rod
Was out on TALALA Creek earlier in the week doing a bit of slow trolling. Using 10/2 braid, (some off brand) on a baitcaster reel using a 10' Outlaw rod. I preface the following by stating I've had this rod for at least 5-6 years and bought it used from Crappie George for 20 bucks. This rod has laid in the boat, outside on and off for the duration of its stay with me. This is the same rod I caught a 55# flathead on using a 1/16th oz jig, (plain lead head and a Squirmin Squirt plastic) in the middle of the summer.
This particular rod tried to leave my side by breaking about 2/3rds up while setting the hook in some solid brush. Not the rods fault, and not really my fault as I had quite the thump prior to the breakage. It was simply time for this rod to die. But alas, me being the finicky miser that I am, I cut the top of the bottom portion and the bottom of the top portion until they merged once again in a snug fit. Then break out the Gorilla Glue and twist both pieces until I had about a 2" overlap.
I now own a custom, 7' 2 7/8" Outlaw rod and I'll get another 5-6 years out of her.
