Dinobot came over last night to join me in an overnight venture on Talala Creek. Despite the threat of severe storms, and a south wind that wouldn't slow down for anything, we ventured forth into a night of limited areas to fish and non exsistent Crappie. Fishing deep, medium and shallow, we did manage to come across perhaps around 12 dinks. According to Scot, Dink master George had our backs and was out to make sure we were able to at least have some kind of action. By sheer luck, we did manage to boat 3 fish in the 12" range throughout the trip. All three came off minnows hanging out around 30" below their black light illuminated neon suspension system fairly close to the bank. Using Bots Green Submersible LED all night long, I don't remember seeing one baitfish coming to the light. The were plenty of shad popping the surface where ever we went. We fished the southern bank across from the ramp, dodged the trees and stumps and kissed a few while easing into the Creek itself. Water temps of 70.1 didn't seem to help as we left the creek without even a sniff of our offerings.

Leaving the shallows and the protection of the bank from the wind, we took a ride on the reading and went out to inspect deeper waters. One brush pile showed a few fish on the Lowrance, so we decided to at least check it out. After about 20 minutes of nothing, I was forced to install my long sleeve Carhart upon my braniac body that thought it would be a good night to sit in a boat vs. snoring and drooling as I'm used to. With no bites, we went back to hide behind the protection of the south bank and try to get some more nothing. Around 4 a.m., my eyes were so heavy I took a break by closing them and placing my chin on my chest. During this period of recharging, Scot caught a nice Crappie which was enough to get me to open my eyes, raise my head to confirm what I thought I was hearing, then proceed back to at least get in some well deserved drooling. Around 5 a.m., I was able to force myself to rebait my hooks and toss them here and there. Thinking that a morning bite could be at hand, the light of the day began creeping around in between the mostly cloudy sky overhead. We tried a few other areas within the wind fence and couldn't find a fish. I told Bot I'd had enough only to see a few fish on the downscan while leaving the shallower area. So we set up off the rocks where the bank was close to a sheer drop down to the 12' to 14' range. Anchors away! I managed to hook a channel cat around 16" long and a couple of more Dinks. It was now 9 a.m. and my worn out factor had had enough.

Throughout the night, we saw flashes of lightening from far away storms according to the weather radar. 7:30 a.m. produced claps of thunder from north of us but never threatened us enough to make me run for the truck. One never knows what a trip is going to produce unless they try. We gave it a good shot, but Oologah spanked us for the most part. This was Bots third time to come fish with me. The previous two times were productive and he left with nice numbers. He's always welcome in my boat.

Thanks for joining me Bot, and George, we both hand it to you for the Dinks we caught, we made you proud!

May not have filled the boat but it's hard to beat 12 hours on the water with a friend, and reading that eloquent report of the night made the trip worth it in itself. Thanks again Reaper and just give me a shout when you want to try it again. Oh and George thanks for sending a message to the big man to take care of us and make sure we find some dinks.

With the 13 hour time difference I actually did think about you guys out there several times and did my best to pray those storms around you! I guess with me gone the Big O dinks must get pretty lonely so thanks for giving them a ride to the top so they can see the world while they're still young enough to appreciate it. And salamat kaayo for including me in the night trip- sorry my karma didn't fill the live well- should have warned you about that.

Storms don't scare me much when I'm on Talala Creek. Only if I'm out in the stump field and I don't hender the early warnings of thunder sent out. I've no problem beaching the boat and running for the pick up. Everything on Oologah is running about a month behind so better fishing is ahead. The worst part of Talala Creek is the lack of brush that last springs rains removed. Every pile that our group put in July of 2012 had been washed away along with other piles. I guess I'm going to have to be a one man crew to try to replinish what once was. There are several smaller piles, but only a couple that have size to them. My thoughts are that this last winter was so cold, the majority of the Crappie left the area for deeper water and shelter. Most have not made their way back in other than the dinks that never left their comfort zones in the first place. There have been some sporadic size Crappie caught this spring, but the numbers are just not there. Hopefully things get back to normal soon as I'm tired of driving around the lake to Blue/Spencer. Called me spoiled but nothing like driving less than a tenth of a mile to the boat ramp.

So where have the crappie been biting the best since the front came in and cooked things off? Heard Talala Creek has been decent but haven't heard much else. Any help would be appreciated since I'm only going to be able to go tomorrow and maybe sunday! Thanks
