I made it out for the first time in several months yesterday afternoon. I got on the water about 215 and headed to some brush piles in 15 FOW. The first 10 seconds, I caught a 12 incher and thought it was going to be a great day. The next 30 minutes produced no bites on 3 brush piles. All piles had shad around them but no willing crappie. I moved about 200 yards to another pile about 3pm and the fun started. I stopped and counted at 4pm and had 30 over 10 inches in the livewell, 8 were over 13 inches. The biggest 2 were 14 inches and weighed 1 3/4 lbs. I caught them around brush in 14 -16 FOW holding right next to the bottom. The best colors were blk/char, blue/white, and cajun cricket in Bobby garland baby shad. I stopped at one more pile on the way back to the ramp and caught 1 more keeper and 1 dink. I only caught about 6 dinks, all the rest were good keepers. I am headed back out tomorrow if the wind cooperates.

Great looking fish and it's nice to see that you got to them. I went to my dock to fiddle with a few things on my boat and to try my structure. Caught nothing. Might need to move that stuff to another spot but I'll give it some more time.
Does anyone ever "bait' a structure??

we use pantyhose stuffed with dog food when we first put them in to pull in the bait fish

Anyone know where I can cut some willow tree branches in the Owasso/Oologah area? I'd like to set some big brush piles. If anyone has some on their land for me to cut and haul off, I'll be glad to share the GPS locations. I'm on vacation for three weeks and would like to take advantage of the opportunity.

We put in today about 9am down by the dam. The first pile we tried we never got a bite, so we moved up the lake and the next pile was loaded. It was a huge pile that stretched from 14 FOW to 21 FOW and was about 30 feet long. The fish were suspended just over the top of the brush, every once in a while the fish would get hung on the brush when we set the hook. We caught them on blk/char, blue/white, cajun cricket, and electric chicken. We finished off our 2 man limit of 74 by 1230. The quality was great, all we kept were over 10 inches and we had 8-10 that were 14 inches. They were just gorged with shad. We had 2 other buddies in another boat and they had there limit today also in similar depths and color pattern. I just received a call from another friend and he fished down by the dam this morning and had his limit. He said he had to fish several piles to find the fish. I guess we got lucky and found them on our 2nd pile.

Fished the dock (#3) at Redbud this morning. Started about daylight and quit at about noon. The bite was really slow but did manage to put 11 in the live box. Most were on minnows but manage a few on jigs.
They seemed to prefer something in pink. Water was exceptionally clear. I was told that the zebra muscles are flourishing and that is why the water is so clear.

Sorry for the late report, but I got called in to work Friday evening then worked my regular shift yesterday and church today. I went again Friday from 830-230 and the bite was slower. The wind was out of the NE at 10-15 and I think that was a big factor. I went to the midlake area and tried 2 piles, we caught a few 9 inch fish. I then ran to Talala creek where I had caught them last Sat. I tried that pile for 20 minutes and never got a bite. Moved to 2 more piles with 2 dinks, then went to an old faithful pile and caught 3 keepers. At a little after 12 I moved to another old faithful spot in Talala creek and fished for 20 minutes and no bite. I was getting ready to leave that spot but I drifted out from 15 FOW to 19 FOW and caught a keeper. The next 90 minutes we put 32 more keepers in the livewell. Ended the day with 35 fish over 10 inches, a few 12 inchers but no big fish. Oologah taught me again Friday that the fish move a lot in the winter and won't always be the same place. It also taught me sometimes they want the jig totally still, if we were moving the jig no bites. If the jig sat there totally still for a while we would get bit. Best colors were blk/char, blue/white cajun cricket and electric chicken. Keep moving from pile to pile and don't be afraid to try piles in different depths. My experience has been they will be stacked up in the winter up here. You just have to find them then they can be caught.
