I am a die hard winter fisherman and fairly new to winter fishing on Oologah. What is the winter crappie pattern, fishing tactics and what area of the lake is good for winter fishing?
Thanks,
Kevin

first time out on the big O in over 2 months. Slow day. Had no idea where to look. Fished from dam to spencer and back. Ended the day with 11 fish all pushing 2 lbs. One was probably 2.5lbs. All in all a good day on the water. Felt very good to be able to enjoy a good day fishing with family.
I fear no fish

The great thing about this thread is you can go back to last year and see what was going on at about this same time of year and get a good picture of what you need to do today.
Hey, tell me a story!

who is hitting the big O? Looking for report. Headed out Saturday.
I fear no fish
Went out last Saturday in the wind and the rain, I didn't see any other boats so I believe we were the only ones crazy enough to be out there. The fish were very scattered, caught some as shallow as 7 feet and some as deep as 25. There was no real pattern. Most of them were too small to keep but we ended up with 9 keepers. Hopefully the colder temps will push them all a little deeper.
do they still have the heated dock at Redbud area?
I have a sailboat in a slip on the lake and this year I hung some artificial structure in roughly 18-23' of water from my dock. Checked it last week and lost what felt like a nice fish and caught one dink. The marina owner told me that they've been catching them on some of the private slips in roughly 18'. Haven't heard any other reports.
I was able to make it out the O yesterday. It was such a beautiful day, sunny with light south winds...we get so few days like that in Oklahoma, and they usually don't fall on a Saturday for some reason. We checked several brush piles on the south end without much luck until we found a spot loaded with shad. We started tearing the sand bass up. I don't like to keep them, but they sure are fun to catch on light tackle. Eventually the Sand bass moved out and we started catching Crappie. We caught some in the brush, but most of them were caught making long casts and dragging the jig on or near bottom right along the drop off, like they were just cruising along the edge of the channel. The fish were holding deep - around 30ft. We caught TONS of dinks but every now and then we would catch a nice keeper. I set the hook on a light bite and something started ripping my drag and wouldn't come up off the bottom. About 5 minutes later I was able to get it up to the top and ended up being a nice 15lb blue cat which joined the crappie in the livewell. We ended up with a nice mess...close to 30 crappie between the two of us. The water was around 42 degrees I believe.
