I'm heading out to Oologah this Saturday morning. There will be a couple of us in a boat. I've fished Oologah a lot in the spring but never winter. I've heard the fish are on brush in 30' of water but are suspended around 15' down. Any body out there want to give me some pointers? I usually fish the old strip pits and a cove between Spencer and Blue Creek. Not sure if those spots will be deep enough though for this time of year.

I was out on Oologah today. The bite was off for me, I caught 4 crappie all day but one of them is pushing 2 pounds, the others are catfish bait. I dunno where the crappie were today. I was fishing brush piles, tops were at 15 feet and there was fish in the brush according to the sonar but I couldn't get them to bite. Spoke with several folks on the way back to the ramp, all said the same thing, no fish or they caught one or two this morning then didn't get another bite all day. One guy mentioned that there was a pressure change today, so maybe the bite will be back on tomorrow.

DSCON - Spencer Creek has been producing great crappie catches but I went by there this morning and the entire cove was froze in. I don't know if it got warm enough to clear it all out today, my guess is no, but maybe someone else was there this afternoon and will be able to tell us.

They're in about 15-18' right now off steeper ledges and dropoffs.

I'm planning on hitting Oologah tomorrow. If Spencer is thawed I'll try it there and maybe Talala or lower lake area. I'm sure the wind will be a factor but I'm optimistic. Hell, I'm due!.

    Default Oologah 01-26-11

G3Jockey is right on with his report of yesterday. I talked to 4 other boats and 3 of them had zero and 1 had 8 small ones. I got out at 1045 and went back to the south end due to the north wind. I sure wanted to go where I caught them the day before, but no way with the wind. I started on the ledge I fished 2 weeks ago. The first 2 times I dropped in I caught two 13 inch crappie and I thought, this is going to be a fun day. Next drop an 8 incher then 1 fish in the next hour and a half. Moved to another ledge that I had caught them on last week and not a bite. Decided to try another place but it was way too windy. I finally found a few fish scattered on one ledge that wanted to bite. There was a very small ball of shad, very hard to stay with. When I was in the ball of shad I was catching them fairly consistent. I left at 330 with 10 keepers and 25 fish caught. Very different than the day before. It still beat working, which is what I am doing today. Going to try and make it our Fri. and Sat.

G3Jockey, I stopped a guy yesterday in a brand new blue G3. I asked him if he was G3Jockey and he said I guess. I asked him if he was on the Crappie.com board and he said no.

CricketGeorge, they were stuffed with shad. Some of those are males.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully the bite will come back by Saturday morning. I think its supposed to be in the upper 60s tomorrow so maybe we'll get some ice melt.

    Hey Odie,

You must have seen Buck, he bought his G3 after seeing mine. Was in the store here in Claremore the day my wife bought me my G3 then he saw me a few days later on the lake. The next day he went and bought the same boat.

You didn't miss anything on the lake today, same as yesterday, the crappie bite is off. I did however catch a 20 pound (give or take a little) blue cat on one of my juglines baited with a crappie head. I'll be out there in the morning. If you see a guy in a G3 boat just like the one you saw Buck in, stop and tell me where the fish are! lol

G3Jockey it was Buck. I will be out about 930-1000 in the morning. Going to go back to hunting the balls of shad as they have obviously moved from where we were catching them. I will be in a white ranger with crimson and grey trim and a 175 Mercury.

Future son in law and I will be on Oolagah Saturday. I have to agree with Crappie Reaper even though I am still considered a rookie crappie fisher. Just know a lot of crappie have been taken this Winter on a regular basis. Will see if I can do my mentor proud tomorrow. Best to all of you out there. If you see a White with red trim Hurricane deck boat and a 115 Merc with one or two young guys and one old guy (me), say hello.
