Not sure anyone can give you a good answer, but I know crappie will prefer one over the other at any given time and I don't know why.
I went for years and never bought a minnow, but since I have lived on Eufaula, I've learned to use minnows also and have as much luck with one as the other unless they are just biting jigs or only biting minnows.
Good report, thanks for sharing.![]()

Here's my take, on an agressive shallow bite jigs will outproduce minnows everytime, plus you keep it moving and cover more water.
Also on a minnow rig setup it really depends on how close to bottom you set them, usually 1' off bottom is the magic for catching Eufaula females.
My go to color for sows is a Pump./Chart. Beavertail with a pink jighead.

What got me was I fished the exact same depth, spot and setup, just switched the minnow for the jig and bam, bam, bam. One after another on the jig when the minnow got one bite in 20 min. I had to change out the jig to test and see if I had found a miracle jig. I tried a completely different style and color jig and kept getting bites. I would never have thought a artificial would out fish a natural. Makes me wonder how many fish I have been missing out on.
fished that chunk rock drop off today and didnt catch many on the ledge but found them up on the flat in 14' of water. they were holding in the bigger rocks up on the flat. caught 17 nice crappie all over 10" and had several 3/4 to 1 1/4 lb fish. got ran off by all the waverunners and ski boats, got tired of fighting the huge waves..you would think with 3 markers out all in about a 30 yd spot they would respect your space. weekendwarriors need some lessons in respect..at 1 time I had a waverunner come so close I thought they were wanting to get in my boat too..wheres the LAKE PATROL when you need em.. theyleft some blue and white cans floating for me to pick up before I left..said something like lite beer..dont drink the stuff so I wouldnt know the difference..felt light enough but they were empty.

Yesterday while coming back from shopping and driving along highway 69 I saw more boats on the water then I've seen in a long time, especially pontoon boats. They were everywhere and I noticed a large cabin cruiser running along at 45mph, (I paced him running parallel on the highway) and it was a beautiful sight to see.
I kept thinking; "It must be nice to be that wealthy."

Were you at Crowder Ranger?
No Fishers was fishing the area between Eufaula Cove and Dutchess Creek..water still off colored some and warming up. was 76.7 when I got there and warmed up to 78.3 before I left..these 95 degree days are warming the water up pretty fast.
Went back to the lake today after church and took my Gr'daughters all 4 of them and we had us a time..they rode my waverunner with me and their nana and we instructed them in the proper way to honor anothers space and to be respectful of others.
