The count from Saturday was 32 fish. One might have been 9 3/4". all the rest were over 10", 9 were prolly over a pound.

All the males were pretty well spent. One of the small females had orange, well veined, but not bloody eggs. Most of the rest had eggs that were turning pale yellow which I believe means they are absorbing.

Looks like the spawn is about over.

Fished mid lake today after the sun burned the clouds off. Misted rain early, enough I had to put on a rain suit. Fished a drop off that I had caught fish on before and fished it the week before the tourney hoping I could find some there with the North wind forecasted but wasnt to be. Today I fished in 16' to 22' along the drop off which fell to 42' along this ledge. Some places were sloping and some were vertical. The fish seemed to like the vertical drop much better and it was alil deeper along the ridge so that might have something to do with it. Had 23 very nice crappie today with 1 measuring 15 3/4" and full of shad. 3 of them had shad sticking out of their gullets and still hit my blk/chart jig. The shad were balled up in 13' to 18' and a few were flipping on top and caught most of my fish well below the shad. The highlight was a 3 1/2 smallmouth that wanted it too, took a few minutes to land it without a net on 4lb mono and a 5' ultralite falcon rod. also caught 2 blackbass and 2 drum and 1 catfish. The crappie had pretty much spawned out with just a few eggs left in their sacks and the males were thin and loosing their coats and all had some kind of battle wounds on them.

Mark, that sounds a lot like the ledge pattern we had going on this last winter on Oologah. Sure fun to use your locator to find the ledge, then the shad ball, and best of all the CRAPPIE. Good report.

I have six or seven 5 footers that are used primarily for tightlines. I also have four or five 6' light action rods. Ihaven't bought a new one for a couple years. i wasn't aware of the new slit handle models. It looks kinda funny, but I guess I should feel one before I form an opinion. I like being able to buy good made in my own town.

Doug, I found this ledge by accident a few years ago. Was motoring down the lake taking my Gr'Daighters on a boat ride when I saw the sandbass tearing up the water. To my surprise when I turned around on them I ran up on a chunk rock flat about 3/4's mile off the bank. My gr'daughters were having the time of their lifes catching sandbass vertical fishing with 3" sassy shads, 6lb mono, 5 1/2' light action Pro Comp Bass Pro Rods, when I decided I needed some action too. So with a 5' ultra light, 4lb mono, and a jig I decided I was gonna get my line stretched. After about 10 tries I finally got my jig on the bottom and after picking it up I felt a tick very lite. Crappie and a nice 1 at that. caught several before the kids arms gave out. Have gone back for acouple years now and have found them there each year soon after the spawn gourging theirselves on shad. So when you talked about ledge fishing at the meeting all I could do was smile at my buddy and I got a few nods back since he has fished this pattern with me for acouple years.

Smoky, if your thinking about trying a Boo Coo Falcon Rod before you buy 1 try mine. The 2 pc handle looks awkward but it feels great and fits the hand nicely. 1 plus is the reel seat nut is in front and not behind the reel like most seats. So with alot of casting with the nut being behind and from the action of the palm causes the nut to become somewhat lose. So I have put nail polish on all my seat nuts that are on the back and that solved the problem. No problem with the Boo Coo.

You got my curiosity up on the Bucoos so I stopped by bastard Pro today and checked them out. I've got to say that they just didn't feel right, but then I didn't try the feel with a reel on and that is a whole different thing.

I would like to try out one of your set ups. Can we fish together sometime? If you would like to drop me a PM. We can take either of my boats or go in yours.

Thanx for offering to let me check out one of your rods.

All my 6 footers are lowriders. I was interested though, I have 6 footers. I saw 5 footers, 5 1/2 footers and 6 1/2 footers but no 6 footers. Did they quit making 6 foot rods?

On a other note, Ranger and I seem to be hijacking this thread. Can a moderator split this thread off and title it Falcon rods or such?

Fished yesterday from 2-730 pm at Crowder, caught 10 kept 8. 2 were real nice. The wind was a bear, really limited where you could fish. I assumed the fish would be 10 feet and deeper, tried that for 4 hours, caught one little one. Finally tried shallow with a cork and jig as far back in the flooded brush as I could and... thump. Wish I would have tried that sooner lol. Oh, by the way jigs (any color) were producing bites in the same spots minnows were not, that really surprised me. For example the first spot I caught fish shallow, I was pitching a minnow into 2 fow around a good looking bush on a cork for 20 min, got one bite. Switched to a jig and cork and caught 5 fish and that many bites one right after another, and it didnt really matter what color the jig was. Any feedback on that?
