Fished mid lake today after the sun burned the clouds off. Misted rain early, enough I had to put on a rain suit. Fished a drop off that I had caught fish on before and fished it the week before the tourney hoping I could find some there with the North wind forecasted but wasnt to be. Today I fished in 16' to 22' along the drop off which fell to 42' along this ledge. Some places were sloping and some were vertical. The fish seemed to like the vertical drop much better and it was alil deeper along the ridge so that might have something to do with it. Had 23 very nice crappie today with 1 measuring 15 3/4" and full of shad. 3 of them had shad sticking out of their gullets and still hit my blk/chart jig. The shad were balled up in 13' to 18' and a few were flipping on top and caught most of my fish well below the shad. The highlight was a 3 1/2 smallmouth that wanted it too, took a few minutes to land it without a net on 4lb mono and a 5' ultralite falcon rod. also caught 2 blackbass and 2 drum and 1 catfish. The crappie had pretty much spawned out with just a few eggs left in their sacks and the males were thin and loosing their coats and all had some kind of battle wounds on them.
