Brian, I've always had real good luck fishing rip-rap but at my age, I have no business trying to walk on it, so if I can't fish it from a boat, I don't fish the rip-rap.
I think the crappie like it because there are so many nooks and little crevices for them to hide and wait to ambush bait-fish.
AMERICANS: Willing to cross a frozen river to kill you, in your sleep, on Christmas, totally not kidding, we've done it.
On a spider block, We have never caught any off those things. I like wood too I think because it's natural to them, Willows always hold some crappie. I cant rule out the Boo, Jerry Blake makes a living off that stuff but Greeson dosent have much wood either?

Fished the Blocker bridge area with my some and EB Saturday. It was kinda slow, but I think we ended up with about 30 for our 5 hour effort. Mostly smaller males, but 3 or 4 over 1#, and maybe one or two under 10" when somebody got "The Big Eye" :o .
They are still on ice waiting to be counted and cleaned because I was tired Saturday night and Sunday got hectic with an unexpected visit from out of town visitors wanting to buy a grill and a smoker.
I'll try to remember to get an accurate count and report tonight when I clean them.
The bite was pretty slow and everyone we talked to seemed to indicate that we did at least as well as they did if not better.
si non ire, nescies--Tim
I caught some white crappie in 2' ow in our cove, no males..., all females with eggs.
