I wonder if it's because all the small shad have died off from the cold water temps this winter. It looks like there are thousands of Gulls pigging out on smaller dying Shad here at Lake Tenkiller.

Thanks to everyone for the reports. It sounds like they are definately starting to move to the staging areas. Who knows by Friday on the south end they may pop up shallow. I may just have to give it a try. But after the day I had on Oologah today it is gonna be hard to drive 2 hours to Crowder when I can be on Oologah in less than 5 minutes.

Common sense isn't always that common!
no, there still there. seen them flipping on top.just hungry.water is warming and there feeling good.Id rather eat one big hamburger than 10 little ones.
I fished with minnows today near Arrowhead, but I only caught one 6-7" crappie. What size jigs are ya'll using at Eufaula? Also, how do you fish with them? All I know is minnows! Thanks, Peke
I normally use two 1/8 oz jigs with yum beavertails pump/char black/char black/pink. I either anchor over a particular area and vertical jig or slow slow troll around drop offs. I never "jig" my rods I hold them still most of the time maybe with the occasional twitch.
When the fish are shallow a 1/16 oz jig and cork. Best of luck to you. Today was a tough day for us too.
If I can be half the man my Dad is, or a fourth the man my Grandfather is, I can rest in peace that my time on earth meant something.
Hey Peke,
We fished in the Arrowhead area yesterday as well. Was kind of slow, but ended up cleaning 28 decent keepers with the largest maybe 13". No hosses. Caught numerous dinks as well. We were using YUM and Bobby Garlands, but I am sure minnows would have worked fine. Most were caught spider rigging. Colors were varied with no real preference emerging: blk/char, pumpkin/char, blk/pink, electric chicken, cajun crickett, etc.
Just for the info, almost all of the fish were caught in from 12' to 14' of water, about 12' down. Didn't get into any fish shallower than 10'. Warmest surface temp we saw was 55 F. Most places, it was 49-51 F.
Send me an IM and I would be happy to help you out if I can.

I fished Rock Creek on 3/18/10 from 11am to 3pm. 1 perch, A 15" black bass and three crappie 11"-12" on black/char, black/yellow. Only saw 2 other fish being taken. Water was muddy and 54deg. More fishermen than fish, both Crowder and Rock Creek parking lots were full. People were leaving at 11am and more coming in at 3pm. The two females only had about 2 table spoons of eggs looked ready to lay. Not worth the 3 hour round trip drive!!
Minnowtime,
We put in at Crowder and fished Rock Creek yesterday as well. I couldn't believe all the boats!
I caught 3 Crappie and my Dad lost several.
We arrived around 10 and left at 2. My Dad had had enough soaking minnows LOL. I would have like to have spider rigged, but my Dad is not into such nonsense...lol
Some of those people should not be allowed to own boats!!
What boat were you in, we talked to several people while there.
Went to Gentry Creek today. As usual, fishing alone and the wind decides to blow into a small hurricane. I saw people on the point on the furthest creek to the East of the park catching some Crappie, but everyone in the boats weren't catching squat, including me.
I spider rigged up the creek in 6 to 8 feet of water. Didn't catch anything until late in the afternoon when I found some 62 degree water next to the ridge. I pulled 2 males out of water that couldn't have been a foot deep. Then I caught a female in 6 fow fishing 4 foot down on a black/pink Yum Beavertail.
And that was it. Nothing else. Fished up the shore and back down and only caught another bass.
Had heck loading the boat in the wind and think I may have thrown my back out. Will know more in the morning.
Thanks for the report, I hope things get better for ya. Good luck with your back.
