I was hoping one of you guys would comment on my report of catching most of these crappie in a small area. Was I fishing over a nest and does anyone care to speculate as to why this circle around 5 feet in diameter yielded most of my catch?
There was no brush in that small area, no habitat that I could detect.

I bet the same happened where you were at. Sometimes even something as simple as a limb is all it takes to congregate fish in a spot, especially if there isn't any other cover around.

Lake level here at Eufaula is real close to normal level. Just around 3" above 585. :)
I went out and got in the boat with cdp21 and his kids yesterday evening. We were over by fountainhead in some coves flippin corks for spawning fish. We ended up with twelve and had one female that was 1.6lbs. She had not even begun to lay her eggs. The water was muddy but in had some clearity to it. About 3 inches visibility. EB
What color do u use when its that muddy EB?
I fished the riprap mid-lake near 69hiway and cot several nice females that had bloody eggs and tails this evening but i sure could use some tips for this muddy water.

Not sure what colors EB uses when it's muddy, but I use 2" Yum Beavertails in black/pink and black/chartreuse with 1/8 or 1/4 Crappie Pro jig heads in either Orange or Chartreuse.
Stace, we were using exactly what Don says....although I was using a vibraking tube in Black and Chartreuse as well with an orange head and using a cork about 1 to 2 ft deep
I caught a 1.6lb crappie out of the spider blocks. My first fish out of those things. The Wildlife dept has put these all over the lake. Maybe they will be good? But to me there is no better brush than the little stick up brush. The natural wood hols more fish hands down in my opinion. EB

There is only one thing that competes with wood on Eufaula and that is rip-rap! I believe a man could fish rip-rap all year and keep his freezer full on Eufaula anyway! EB
