Tim do you remeber how high the water was the second trip you took with me? It was 5ft high and we killed them. I have fished several touraments in all sorts of conditions and there is always guys that catch them. Good fish too! I hope we have at least 10 teams! It will be fun

I wasn't commenting on the lake level. I have always done well on high water. I was only curious about the falling water. I don't think a slow fall hurts them too bad, but when they pull the drain plug, I have never done much.
Bottom line is that if you don't go, you won't know,(as my sig line says in Latin) and a day on the lake is always a good thing, especially if you add good camaraderie to it
I had not planned on fishing it because I just don't generally do tournies. I might just try to make it down there though.

Tim you can catch them in all conditions. Especially on fishery like Eufaula. Hot tip: When there is current, fish the slack water! Remember that crappie don't like alot of current in there face, thats whycurrents breaks are so good when the water is moving! Example Blocker Bridge! It's fantastic when the water is moving but terrible when its not! EB

Bummed...
:mad:I finally got some time to get back down to our place at the Big E with the fam and hoping to get in on some late spawn crappie. I thought things might have settled down from all the rain, rise, runoff, etc. Got shot down stone cold by a nasty north wind AGAIN. Not to mention, a cove so muddy I couldn't see the minnows in the bucket. I know a lot of you all can catch crappie in any conditions all year long, but have we seen the end of the annual spring spawn crazy crappie catching season for 2011?? Hope not, but I'm discouraged...

We caught them shallow last year up into the first week of June, try coves on the main lake as it's the last to warm up.

I fished down on the south end of the lake this afternoon and had an interesting time. I got there shortly after 2pm and started catching sandbass.........one after another for almost two hours. Nasty little critters, tangle up the line, and a nusiance to take off the hook. But the crappie finally moved in and I caught around 25 all together, but only kept around a dozen.......maybe 14, honestly didn't count them.

I didn't weigh the one large crappie, but I estimate around 1-3/4 pounds, maybe a tad more. But the opening on the ice chest is 16" and she goes almost all the way across, so I can say this fish is around 14".
I caught a pretty nice crappie and a flathead at the same time on a crappie rig, never done that before. Threw the flathead back, he was only around 12-14" and I think they have to be 22" to keep.
I hooked into something really large, it headed to the bottom immediately, got the sinker wedged down in some rocks and I ended up having to break the line (I use break-away sinkers so I can save the crappie rigs) and when I retrieved my rig, the hook was straightened.
This had to have been a catfish........ if it was a large crappie, I really don't want to know about it. Doubled my pole over, so yes..... it had to be a cat.
Crappie moved out around 7pm and the sandbass came back in, not has heavy, but enough to prompt me to reel my lines up and leave around 8pm.
Fascinating thing about the crappie, I caught more than half of them in a circle about 5 feet in diameter. Perhaps I was on top of a nest or it was just good habitat for fish.
All in all, had a great time and feel a lot better about this fishing trip than the one Saturday........ the tournament. All of us struggled Saturday due to the high wind and nippy temperature.
Thanks for looking.:)

Thanks for the report Stink! I'm betting the "one that got away" was either a catfish or drum. For some odd reason, I've been catching more drum this year than any other. A 2 or 3 lb drum can do a lot of damage on a light rod!
As for the sandbass, the only thing I've found that they're good for is fertilizer for tomato plants!

stink flatheads only have to be 20 " to keep with a limit of 10 unless you are nuddleing or using a spear gun.
