My old standby was always along the old highway north of Eufaula. There is a flat that runs out there that they should be on this time of year. We always caught them there trolling if they weren't surfacing. Often we would just drag jigs, longlining of sorts, and do fine.
-
The old road bed wasn't producing this past friday. they weren't surfacing and I trolled all the way to the bridge several tmes and at different depths, only caught one keeper.

Hotter than H
Is anyone catching boiled crappie?
-
No catching them down deeper where its cooler.
-
I quit keeping them until after Labor Day. The last two trips (Thunderbird and Eufaula) I immediately put them on ice and they still tasted parboiled. And, they were caught deep. Winter and Spring are my favorite times to load the freezer.
-
I got to go out Saturday evening for a little while. We caught 12 keepers out of timber in 8-12fow. Lots of small ones, we didn't catch a fish on the bridges. We were kentucky rigging minnows. Towards the evening the fish pulled up shallow!

I have been catching good fish over the last couple of weeks, mostly on rip-rap 10 fow, some on trees 10-14 fow. Not big numbers, but enough to make me endure the heat (yes, even before the "cooler" weather). One of my fishing partners caught a limit of good fish on trees on August 2nd. Beavertails, pumpkin/orange (spike dipped), black pink, pearl pink.
-
what trees and rip rap J.D.?
-
I'd just have to show you ;)

Sample from yesterday. Most were off the trees in 11-12 fow, mostly on pearl/pink and bruise (black/blue) Beavertails. Ended up with 26 good fish. They were going pretty good mid morning, but that little front seemed to shut them down mid day.

Ole Bugle Lips liked the dipped Beavertail.

Nice fish J. D. Glad to see someone is getting to go. I haven't been in a month. Hopefully things will slow down after next week. I need to get back down there and fish with you again.

Went out yesterday and go in to them pretty good! I fished from 2-6 and had my limit. I bet I caught 75-80 fish. Jigging the wood! I had a hand full of fish over 13 inches! EB
-
Well if it's anything like last weekend I'm planning on tearing them up! Been hearing some really good reports here lately!

I am sure you will, EB. Since I can't seem to catch them where and how you will be, I will be staying with the rip-rap. I have still been doing pretty good with not big numbers, necessarily, but good fish.

Went out Sunday and Monday, and the fishing slowed way down. Only had 25 in two days! The cooler weather changed them up a little bit! EB

Took my 79 yr old dad this morning for his brithday present (birthday was yeasterday 9-11). We fishing from 830 to 1130 and ended up with 20 keepers 10-12" long caught that many little ones. Couldn't stay out much longer than that for dad has a hard staying up right now days. God bless him for his fishing days are getting closer to the end. This is what he wanted for a present so I made sure he got it. We hit the standing timber using beaver tails. The bite was very strong when we first got there then by around 930 it had slowed way down. Fished anywhere from 10-22 FOW about 10' deep. Sorry no pictures dad was in a hurry to get back their motor home to rest. So I did a quick clean up for him and sent him on his way. All though I know he won't see this post, but I love you dad and happy fishing. :-)

Crappie-Jiggin, I was fishing this morning and got to thinking of my Dad and longed for him to be with me one more time so he could get in some fishing, he loved to fish. Odd that you would make this post on the same day I was thinking of my father, nice post.
Note: Caught around 30, but only 5 keepers..........but had a blast with all the action of the smaller ones. One right after another for two hours.
-
I can relate my dad was the best, I sure do miss him! He taught me how to hunt and fish, but most impotantly how to live right! I would give anything to spemd another day on the water with him! EB

Rip-Rap
I was able to get out witha friend of mine and fish a couple of hours Saturday evening. We had 15 keepers on rip rap in 6-10 fow with pumpkin/chart beaver tails! Had some good fish! It is always nice for the guide to be put on fish! I was suppose to guide Sunday but I wasn't feeling to well, for you that know me I had to feeling pretty bad not to go fishing! EB
-
A friend and I ran out for a couple of hours yesterday afternoon. Caught about 15 or so good keepers on the rip rap, 4-7 fow on Beavertails and Crappie Pro solid body jigs. A bit breezy, but had an enjoyable time. Thanks, EB ;-)

Fishing RipRap
I see a lot of references to fishing riprap, and I see boats on it all the time. Being new to the lake and area, I was just wondering the techniques used to fish it. Do you anchor and fish a particular depth, or do you slowly troll along the riprap?
Also, when jigging along the riprap, do you cast toward the bank and reel it in, or do you vertical jig down in the rocks. I've read back through this thread quite a few times and have picked up some great tips, but really didn't see specifics on how to fish the riprap.
By the way, I fish the south end of the lake, usually around the Crowder area.

Scott, to answer your question, yes to everything. If you will go out and watch the folks fishing the rocks you will see that different people fish all the tactics you described. Some guys anchor, others troll. Some guys cast to the banks and reel it in, some guys fish straight down. Some guys use minnows, others use jigs. There is no right or wrong way. When the fish are there it seems everyone is catching their share no matter the technique. I personally prefer to slowly troll jigs in a specific depth along the rocks. I try different depths until I start catching them but 8 to 10 feet is a very good bet for a starting point. If you want some first hand knowledge, book a guide trip with Eufaula Boy or Barry Morrow. They will show you how to catch fish on the rocks for sure.
Good luck, Robert

Thank you for the good reference meatdragger. What we look for when fishing rip-rap is clusters of bigger chunk rock. Most of the time the bigger rocks hold more fish because the fish can get in and around them, the smaller rocks hold fish to, but not as well as the bigger stuff. We fish rap on Eufuala because we have miles of it to fish in all depth ranges.
I was able to take Larry Russell from CrappiePro fishing yesterday evening, I think we kept 12 nice fish before the lightning run us off the water. We were fishing rip-rap. Brown and orange was the hot color! We had a couple of 1.5lb fish. EB
-
I'm still hearing that the fish are biting really good since it has cooled off! EB
-
Was able to get out for a couple of hours Monday evening! We were fishing rip-rap in 6-10 fow we caught some good fish! The numbers are not high but the size is really been good! I fished rip-rap on the north end and south end and the fish patterned pretty much the same! EB

I've been out on (3) different occasions, on various days, and have fished from the bank with minnows. Each trip was a bust with zero bites. Crappie are not up along the banks at this time. Getting my old boat ready so I can get out along the rip-rap and brush piles. Hopefully will get out by this weekend and catch a few, will post my results, good or bad.
-
Okay, put the boat in the water but it was to windy to fish on the south end today (from elm point to blocker bridges) could find a calm spot at all.
-
It is just a little too windy today, but I'm going to take a look at it around 6pm and if it's not too bad, I'm going to fish the standing timber directly across from Arrowhead Lodge. Prime fishing time according to the chart is 7pm. Got my old boat ready for the water, took her out for a spin, and it performed fine. If I get out this afternoon, I'll give a report in this thread, if I don't go, no report. Doh

Hey guys, i live in wilburton, and am not too familiar with the eufaula lake. I would like to try and do some crappie fishing somewhere close by. I don't have a boat and will have to do bank fishing, tho i prefer to fish of a dock or something of the sort. You guys know of any around? I can travel a little bit to if i have to. I would also like to get some sand bass if they are still about, i fish at sardis lake almost every day, would be happy to tell you in detail where the greatest spot for crappie (which are biting very well) is. Give me a holler! And good Fishen guys!!!
-
If you are goind to be fishing from the bank I would try around Crowder City Park or along the Blocker bridge area. Blocker has alot of new (last year) brush piles on the north west side.
-
Do you know if there are any floating docks or anything? I used to live in norman and the shawnee twin lakes had a floating inclosed fishing warf or how ever you spell it lol. Wounderful fishing! I think i will check the blocker bridge, which after a little google map search i found out is by well blocker of course and crowder hehe! Thanks.
-
There is a fishing dock at Crowder City park but it's no inclosed. There are enclosed docks at Belle Starr, Eufauls cove, and What used to be Fountainhead Marina now called Lake Eufaula Marina up in the Gentry Creek arm. That's all I know of.
-
Thanks. Anyone have any luck at them? If you ever go down to sardis, let me know.
-
Took my old boat out today, fished over in the standing timber just East of Arrowhead Lodge/State Park. Got there and put in around 1pm, it was slow, but did get an occasional bite. Left around 4:30 after catching only one small catfish. I was worn out and only in the boat less than 4 hours. These V-bottom boats sure are uncomfortable and since they are always rocking with each wave or movement, your body is constantly exerting muscle movements to keep you stable. Wish I had kept my pontoon boat now..........sigh. But I actually enjoyed myself, it was a nice day, the wind was ok, temp was fine and had the crappie took advantage of all that, this would be a different report for sure and I'd be bragging on the little V-bottom.:o

I've Sunday open if anyone is interested in going fishing! EB
-
Pick me, Pick me!!! LOL... I will see you in a few weeks... Are you still going to Fort Gibson?
-
Haha ill take you up on that, and it looks like it will come downt o the battle of the shane's as my name is shane as well lol! Anyone know where at you can crappie and catfish? At night preferably.
-
Hey Shane, I plan on fishing it, but there is a possibility that I won't be able to, depending on what our team does. But I will be there for the weigh in on both days regaurdless! I am going to try and go fishing on the north end today. We have been catching some good fish around the I-40 area.
