where are you wanting to know about? It would depend where you are trying to put in at because some of the ramps will be a problem.
Fished the North end with my buddy pretty hard this weekend with little success, used many tactics, many depths and many presentations. Guess thats why they call it fishing. My reputation with my daughter and my girlfriends two boys will take a beating this week while they are out of school if it doesn't improve for me. Anyway, I have promised them some fish and I have never gone south of Crowder so I'm a newbie to Gaines which appears to be the best bet right now. With 3 teenagers and 2 adults will have to break out the pontoon this week for spring break - Is it possible to fish a large pontoon in gaines and catch a few fish? Your opinions and suggestions are appreciated.
There were a couple of pontoons in there yesterday so I guess they can launch okay. Don't know if they were catching anything.
Anyone been catching at I40?
me and a buddy went on Saturday. We didn't have any luck, even after trying multiple places and multiple tactics. We couldn't find them around crowder.
It's been really slow the last few days, although there has been success at Gaine's creek, I've not seen anyone catching fish in most places around the lake.
But the spawn is just days or weeks away. :)
I fished Belle Starr early Sat. AM and only had 5 keepers. Bite quite early, only lasted about 45 minutes. Fished Area 51 late Sat. and had 3 more keepers. They said they had a great bite the night before. Talked to a family that had 26 Fri. night from about 6:30 to 8:30 pm.
13-y.o. grandson has spent a couple of days with me due to spring break and he loves to fish. We caught these at a local dock owned by a friend of mine here in Arrowhead Estates. We started off using jigs, but was having very little luck, so we switched to minnows and ended up with 14 keepers, threw back that many dinks.
My grandson is in for a special treat because he's never eaten crappie. I'm looking forward to later this evening when I see him take his first bite.

Great Stink! You prolly created a monster.
Thats great stink! Looks like you'll had a great day together. What time is dinner??? Thanks for the pics. This will be a day that your grandson wont forget. I remember all my trips that my grandpa took me. Thanks again STINK..
WTG Stink! You guy's had a great day, he will love e'm fried up.
Thanks guys for your comments and well wishes. He really liked the crappie and stated; "I usually don't like to eat fish, but I like crappie."
All the females were full of eggs and the egg sacs were firm and ready for release.
Don't you guys think with the warmer weather coming over the weekend that by the first part of next week the spawn should kick off?
Nice crappie, Stink, thanks for sharing the pic!
I think we need atleast a couple more weeks for it to get going. Part of this may be that I will be out of the state beginning tomorrow for a week but also feel the water temps need a couple of weeks of the warmer nights and sunshine days currently forecasted. I would think the further south the more fish will be moving shallow especially in the evenings but it will be late March into April before moving much up North. The best part is once some fish start moving there will be many lined up behind them moving in later. Barring lake elevation changes or fluctuation April should be a banner month.
Crowder/Rock Creek area 3/18 water temp was 57 degrees late into the afternoon..another 5 to 7 degrees over then next few days/weeks will be the ticket..never found a fish in anything above 8' and only a few that shallow..ok 1...but hitting the 12' to 14' depth got em..well had 14 nice 1's 1 just over 2lbs. So yes its just around the corner..saw many fisherman working the banks with minnows and jigs but none catching..but i guess its not all about eatin good..its about enjoying the time on the water..talked to every boat i encountered being the good ole boy i am and from hearing the samething from all it was a better bite last wednesday..i personally didnt think the bite was bad today..had around 20 dinks so had a pretty good day..
Fished Gaines with LipRippers on Wed. from 1230 to 6. We caught 25-30 and kept 16 good fish. The biggest was around 14 inches and fat. We caught most of our fish in 5-8fow jigging just off the bottom. Best colors were blk/pink and pumpkin/char. The bite was a lot slower for everyone we talked to. They all said it was better last week. Still a good day to be on the water.
Fished Gaines again on Thurs. with another friend of mine. We got on the water around 10 and fished until 6. We caught 25 and kept 21 good fish up to 1.5 lbs. The bite was slow again for us. We caught most our fish in 3-8 fow but did hear of some being caught shallower. Same colors as the day before. I expected it to be better, but that is fishing.
Going to fish Oologah this week.

Went with LipRIPPERS yesterday and caught about 15. Most hit a black/pink yum beaver tail in 3-4fow. Had to drag through the brush to get them to even look at it. Bit pretty well from about 2-4. Turned off before it got cold in the evening.
He's telling it right, there were 2 cedars {green} that all the fish came out of. And he had on a 2" cigar slipfloat with 2 jigs and set @ 3', he would toss it right into the cedar and get hung up then shake it around then get Hammerred!
In an act of humility, after gettin spanked...I cleaned his fish. Good job son! you make me proud!
I learned from the best! On another note, my technique of dragging through the brush would have never worked had I not been using power pro. That stuff is nuts!
A buddy wanted to get out and go fishing Sunday, since it was his only day off. So we had planned on trying Rock Creek, but the forecast of heavy South winds made me change my mind and try Gaines Creek, even though it is 93 miles from my house!
We pulled up around 10 O'clock and I was kinda amazed that we were number 5th or 6th in line and the parking lot was nearly full! I also noticed a white Carolina Skiff motoring off as we drove up. Yep, it was EB just leaving the ramp, so I had a little hope that the fish were still biting there.
Anyway, we finally got into the water and headed up the creek. Started fishing in 10 to 12 FOW using jigs, any colors so long as they were blk/pnk and blk/chrt! We hit a few banks but the wind really played havoc with my boat. We decided to try down the creek to see if we could find a place out of the wind. Hit the rock bluffs down toward the mouth and kept adding a few at every stop. Nothing huge, but solid 11 to 12" fish. The wind just kept us moving out of the zone all the time and it was hard to work the trolling motor and concentrate on fishing.
As the afternoon wore on, we decided to go back up the creek and while working a bank, met EB coming down the creek. He said they were having good luck with a slip cork and jig, about a foot to foot and a half down. At that point, we'd picked up a few in the 6 to 8 FOW, but the largest were still coming at the 10 to 12 foot range.
Worked our way up the creek as it was getting late. I put on a cork with a Blk/Pnk Beavertail about a foot below it and started hitting the stuff on the bank. Put about 6 or 7 more in the livewell using this method.
Water temps started out around 64 in the morning and we found spots that were as high as 71 later in the day. The jig and cork bite ended for us later in the afternoon as the Bass moved in. I bet we caught nearly a dozen 10 to 14" bass on one stretch of bank where just an hour before we had pulled out some Crappie. It's been my experience that when those Bass move in, the Crappie move out. We never caught another Crappie up shallow after that.
Ended the day with 27 that would go between 11 and 13.5". Not what I had expected, but better than nothing at all!
Here's few waiting on their turn under the fillet knife for their filletotomy's.

Black and pink ruled the day! 98% come off of this combination right here. Lime green Crappie Pro 1/4 oz head (I think this may be what they call a chartreuse color) black and pink beavertail.

On a final note, I did manage to break the "indestructible composite shaft" on my Minn Kota Terrova. Apparently they never field tested that shaft in Lake Eufaula on a 20' Aluminum boat when the wind was howling out of the South. Something those MK engineers might want to consider next time when they're putting their products through stress testing! I have cracks 2 to 3 feet long from mid shaft all the way to the head. Glad it has a lifetime warranty!
Fished Gaines creek on Sunday and kept 45 mostly males off the bank! We ahd tried that deper water but couldn't get a steady bite! So we got the jig and cork out. Once I figured out the pattern within the pattern we caught fish on every bank we fished. I had the trolling mottor in 2 ft of water the rest of the day. Almost all of our fish came out of 2-3ft of water. We were fishing blk/chart vibra's.
OkieDon, you know the back I seen you fishing? We caught 25 keepers off that bank in 2-3 fow over nothing. Not much structure just had to have on the right drop off! EB
Bugtussel area...morning bite was slow only 12 in the lW at 10AM..water temp was 61.3 nothing on the banks. bite was in 10'to 12' DOW..had to be bumping rocks or brush..as the noon hour arrived the bite picked up..fished a stretch of bank with a few brushpiles on it about 100yds long..fisnished up cleaning 54 very respectable fish..nothing really big but alot of 11" to 13.5" crappies..today with the dinks my partner and I caught over 100..great day even with the wind..blk/chart. and blk/pink super tubes 1/16oz lead heads,, when we finished up the water temp had dropped to 60.2..
The last few days here on Lake Eufaula I seem to be having better luck with minnows than jigs. Ran into this last week while fishing Coal Creek and the Crowder area. Once I switched over to minnows, I began catching fish.
The best time for catching them has been shortly after sunrise and about 30 minutes to one hour before dark, then for around an hour after dark.
@ EB
The bank you're talking about is where we caught our biggest fish Saturday. They came at each end of it. It's also where we caught our biggest fish when we went out with Todd. Sumtin' special about that bank!
Where was that bank again? :)
That is all I fish with Crappiepro jig heads! Larry Russel has a great product, He makes somany that he doesn't have time to fish! EB
headng to gaines creek in the morning...what is the best way to get there from i 40...and what boat ramp should i use?????
Crowder area...36 crappie and brushpiles was the pattern..tried the back with cork and jig but way 2 slow for me..taking 3 fish that way..brushpiles was the flavor of the day..7' to 15'. deeper in the morning and shallower in the afternoon..5 fish over 16"...blk/pink super tube and blk/chart..seemed to work the best..albino shad in bass assain worked very well too..
Throw a few pics of those hogs on here Ranger09. Sounds like a nice catch.
Good timing on your vacation ranger
was going to Tenkiller today but my buddy canceled..so eufaula here i come..crowder and blocker bridge area since the wind was out of the north..saw 3 different guides today..all with a pr of fisherman in their boat..all fishing those long rods and slowly moving down the banks..didn't see em catchin anything..well unloaded at 8:20am and fished til 2:05pm..had a limit of 37..brushpiles again from 6' to 14'..water temp was 61.2 early and when i left it was 62.8..warming up good..had 1 really fine momma...16 3/4" whopper..didnt weight it due to my batterys being dead..oh well..was a fine day on the water..the bite was really better around the noon hour only had 13 fish at noon..from noon til 2pm caught the reaminder of my limit..black/pink super tubes and bass assassin in the albino shad color was the ticket today..
Great reports, Thanks Ranger.
Back to the Big Easy after a wonderful day on Tenkiller..was a gr8 day fishing new water..but the creel limit was a ahrd 1 to take keeping 30 big ole crappie between my partner and I, catching our limit in under 2 hours..to far to drive to head home so early so we fished for fun..but the hard thing was throwing back 2lb sows..was a nervous wreck..naw not really thats the future we released yesterday..now back to the Big Easy..first brushpile we caught 9 keeper crappie as fast as you could take 1 off and throw back to get another..then the clouds came overhead..like turning a light switch off..as did the crappie..8:15 9 crappie in the LW..at noon 16 in LW..and those 7 were hard to come by..then the sun broke thru and the water heated up from 60.1 to 64.9..the bite was on again..caught fish off the bank with cork and jig and in brushpiles..ended up with 40 at 3:50pm..fishing the crowder area again..blk/pink bobby garlands and albino shad bass assassins
Hey Ranger I thought it was all fun. Sounds like an alright day.
I thought Eufaula had the states 37 limit?
Reaper, the first part of the post is about Tenkiller. The last part is about Eufaula.
