I was able to get out for a couple of hours yesterday before dark, I fished from 6:00-8:00 had 10 really nice fish over brush in 9-11ft. I caught several little ones on a pump/chart minnow mindr, when I switched to a beavertail I started catching bigger fish! Had 4 that were 1.25lbs. The big plus was it was beautiful out on the water! I don't miss that 108 degrees at all. The water temps were in the mid 80's so the fish were still in the brush, when it continues to cool down they will go to spredding out and relating more to the bottom, they do it evry fall! EB

I'm going to be at a B&B this Friday down off hwy 9, a few miles north of Gains Creek boat ramp. I have never been to this part of the lake at all, and I've never had my boat on any part of Eufaula (live in South OKC). I would really appreciate a little direction. If you only had 1 day of the year to hit Eufaula, where would you go? Not asking for your secret spots, just a general idea of where to launch/what to try would be nice. I've heard the hwy 9 bridge is pretty good year-round, and people always talk about Gains Creek, but I don't see a creek on my map, just a boat ramp called Gains Creek. Any help would be appreciated.

If I need to trade tips about Thunderbird (my home lake), I'd be happy to...though I'm not sure why anyone from Eufaula would ever go to Thunderbird (maybe saugeye fishing?!?)!

As you probably already know the lake is over 3' low and dangerous to say the least unless you have knowledge of it. As far a Gaines Creek its almost impossible to get access from the lake right now without knowing the channel. Even with a fishing hotspots map showing the contours and channels on that part of the lake right now you can and will run up on mud flats with little or no warning. If you was going to fish Gaines Creek I would advise to put in at Hickory Point on Anderson Rd off Hwy 31 East of Krebs Oklahoma. Even doing that without knowing the channels in the creek its a dangerous place to run your boat and very stumpy right now. Oh you can catch fish there now flipping around stumps and under willow trees thats forsure in 2' to 5' DOW. Again right now on the lake its been pretty slow with all the hot weather and falling lake levels and no new water entering the lake. The oxygen levels has to be low with the non activity of the crappie and even the sandbass are not schooling like they should this time of year. Myself I would concentrate on main lake points and rap and fish brush piles along the points and rap in 8' to 12' DOW...Blocker Bridge area has several piles along the rap that produces fish thru out the year along with I-40 Rap as well. If I was going not knowing the lake thats the areas I would fish. Now #9 bridge area. I have never caught many fish around the bridge area of #9 not saying it can't be done. If your going to fish that area I would suggest going up the creek and fish the standing timber. Fish as far back into the creek as you can get and hit the trees and stumps you can see in 8' to 10' DOW but remember the fish are awfully scattered right now so to catch alot you will have to fish many trees and stumps. Now baits of choice if I was going to fish the rap I would use baby shads in blue thunder and pearl and beavertails in lime/chart. and pumkin/chart. if it was me. The bigger the bait the bigger the fish, but you will certainly get more strikes on the smaller baby shad baits. Thanks so much Ranger! That's very helpful information! I'm starting to rethink taking the boat though. Good old Gary England is telling me 15-30 MPH winds, and I don't think I should be out on a lake I'm not familiar with, while it's low, and with high winds. So if anyone knows of good bank access I would greatly appreciate a PM. Again, not looking for anybody's favorite spot, just a place I can physically get the truck to the water where there's enough depth for my wife and me to fish. Thanks!

Daniel again if your not afraid to have your wife walk on the rap you could fish the Blocker Bridge area east of Crowder. It has access right to the water where you can drive and about 4 or 5 marked brushpiles with bouys that can be fished from the bank. It would be protected from the south wind also. I can't say if you would catch fish there or not but I have seen many fisherman and women fishing from the banks there with corks and minnows. Just a thought unless you want to fish 1 of the fishing docks around the lake. Wish I could help alittle more but I hadn't fished from the bank in years on Eufaula. If the water was up and had alittle current I would suggest that you fish at one of the many culverts on the lake. When the water is flowing thru the culverts its a pretty good bet you can catch a few there. Anyway GOOD LUCK and have a blast....Ranger

I have been getting o go out and fish for a couple of hours after football practice each day here close. I caught some nice fish yesterday in 9 fow with beaver tails over brush. I had ten nice fish. The biggest was 1.30! The water tems were 84 degrees and the clarity was great! Around 8 inches! EB

Thanks again Ranger. I hadn't heard of Blocker Bridge before. I know where Crowder is, and I know which direction is East, so I guess I could find it! Slip corks are kind of a hobby of mine, so that sounds like fun.

Good to see Ranger at the lake this morning! Thanks for checking up on us. We fished mostly 2-8 feet deep around brush. Caught several bass using Garland baby shad, but didn't get a bite on minnows. Guessing we didn't quite get deep enough for crappie but we had a good time. Thanks again!
